Hello Skipper, you are right.
The old thread “B-24 or UFO?” ended with hypothesys.
Since I read that B-17man restored a Martin top turret (B-24 DUGAN), now I address my question to him hoping to have confirm and other informations.
Best regards.
Mauro
Many thanks Bomberboy!
I also realized the follow drawing to explain the lateral shapes.
I don’t understand the function of the third wavy cam (at the bottom).
First cam = right gun
Second cam = left gun
Third cam = ?
Best regards
Mauro
Probably the solution is in the following extract:
From “British Aircraft Armament – Volume 1” di R.Wallace Clarke, pagg.170-171:
“The profile interrupter protected the airframe.
It consisted of a cam enclosed in a protective covering, which was turned by a pinion meshing with the turret ring gear.
As the turret revolved the cam turned at the same rate.
On the cam, an exact miniature of the portions of the airframe were engraved.
Fitted to the cam cover was a switch box containing three micro switches, and the contact was opened when a micro switch arm struck the engraved part of the cam.
This broke the gun firing circuit and automatically stopped the guns firing.”
Mauro
I think it is an excellent intuition!
Many Thanks.

Hello, the joke is in the title not in the content of post.
It is really a part of B-24 and its lenght is approximately 15 cm (6 inch).
I am curious to understand the function of the strange geometrical forms on the item surface.

Probably G5-102369 is the CONSTRUCTION NUMBER.
Hurricane identification
Probably the serial was corrected.
I read: SERIAL G5 – 102369

Hi Canada TD,
Thanks for your hypothesis, but I think it is an electrical actuator, but I donβt Know what is its purpose.
The 1-part is a reduction-gear.
To the points 2 and 3 were connected two switches for interruption and (or) inversion of rotation.
The lenght of motor is 22cm (8.5 inch).
Excuse me for my bad english, I hope it is comprehensible.
Regards.

Wellington hinge
Hi Canada TD,
I confirm, several parts have the numeric prefix 285.
Thanks.

Wellington crash site
The wreck of Wellington and the lifeless body of crew were discovered in spring of 1945.
The exact date of crash is unknow because the aircraft may be hidden from snow for months.
The geographic area is approximately 30 Km north of Verona (city of north Italy) in a impervious rocky zone (over 2000 meters).
The nearest town is Recoaro.
Unfortunately, today very few fragments of the aircraft exist.
The type of aircraft is certain thanks to the code VACH (Vickers-Armstrongs Chester) and to the finding of some geodetic structure elements.
The dificulty is to discover the story of this aircraft and its luckness crew.
I enclose a photo showing some plates and other elements.
Every information apreciated.
Regards.
Mauro
Note: I hope my english is comprehensible.
