It is intriguing to note, though, that Boeing aircraft are not similarly afflicted.
Oh yes they are!!!
There is basicaly only one way to suck poo from one end of an aircraft to another. Airbus and Boeing do it the same way.
They BOTH get blocked by the same stuff. The punters ignore the signs and stuff all sorts of stuff down there.
I have delt with the results on both types! It’s still the best job in the industry!;)

Out of interest, how have you compensated for the metal shrinkage in the newly casted part?
Jon
You make the mold slightly bigger. Can’t remember by how much though. It has been thirty two years since I cast anything!

The fire trucks were there because of the over weight landing only. It is a standard proceedure. There was no problem with the aircraft. The fire crews followed the aircraft to stand because the brakes would have been very hot. Normaly the aircraft would wait out on the taxi way to let them cool off a bit but they were trying to get the poor little mite to hospital ASAP.
The reverser had nothing to do with it. That was just one of those “Murphy’s law” things. My spy tells me that the reverser was restowed, tested and found to be OK

By the way the 757 hasn’t got a fuel dump system.
I did notice it last night and wondered why it was so late.

I am far from trying to start rumours.
I was at the AVP and this to me looked more than a medical divert.
You would not usually see five or more fire engines following an ac for a medical divert and you would certainly not see part of the engine housing missing.
I am not trying to disagree that this was a medical divert but I do think there is more to it!!
The MEN reported that the child died:(
My spy in the camp tells me that all it was was a medical divert. The aircraft did land overweight, hench the fire engine. to add to their woes one of the reverser halves did not stow when de selected. Both the CF-6 and the CFM-56 reversers have a left and a right half that normaly operate together. Some times one side does not do what the other one does, either stays stowed or refuses to stow. If one half stays deployed that engine will not be able to get above idle. Happens every now and again, a pain in the a~~e for us as we have to fix it:D

(and a prayer that there’s a Doctor amongst the passengers)
kev35
Don’t hold your breath on that one!
In this “where’s there’s blaim there’s a claim” society would a doctor make himself known?
I have seen the disclaimer form that a Doctor has to sign BEFORE recieving the Doctor’s medical kit carried onboard one of our tour operators aircraft. I wouldn’t blaim them for not having anuthing to do with it!

Sterling Caravelles were a regular sight at Ringway when I was a lad.
Must have been quite a sight along side the Hindenburg:D

If you can pin the Manch movement down to Month and year I’m sure someone could look it up in ‘Winged Words’.
Mmmm I have got it down to1993-4:o
Rgds Cking
Hispania were flying Caravelle charters into Manchester towards the end of the caravelles lifespan.
Now THAT rings a bell! I’m sure that the one I saw was an EC- bird.

The 767-300 will break it’s back if they slam it down hard enough. Boeing have a standard repair for it as they have had to repair a lot of them! In fact one of our big charter operators is flying one that a previous owner had broke it’s back!!!
Composite repairs are more difficult than aluminium repairs because composites delaminate or split between the layers when damaged. This makes the whole area weaker so you have to cut the delaminated area away too. The act of cutting the composite causes the composite to delaminate more!
I too will be interested to see how Boeing wants us to repair the 787 when a catering truck runs into it!
BTW you don’t weld repair Boeing and Airbus skins, they are rivited.
Rgds Cking
Thnks mate. I can’t say that either of them looks like the one I saw but I may be mistaken.

Good to hear that the Starfighter will get some TLC. It was a mess with it’s nose missing FIFTEEN years ago when I last visited the place.

Skydrol should not normally be that hot (as in temperature) but it’s chemical build-up makes it burn. Those of us working on a hydraulic system that have taken a quick pee without washing there hands thoroughly beforehand can vouch for that:eek:
If I can’t wash my hands I get one of the other lads to help out:D
Rgds Cking
Although i did laugh at the topic name. 😀
You wouldn’t if it had happened to you!
Skydrol in the eyes is very, very painful, take it from one who has suffered it!

AH!!!
Once you have the spinner and thrust ring off the blades will be free to be pulled out. The mid span snubber will cause you problems. The trick is to pull each blade towards you a bit at a time. Start at the top, this will be where the blades are at the most floppy (Technical term). Pull the top one towards you as far as it will go. Rotate the fan one blade and do the same to the next blade. Keep rotating and pulling again and again and…. There will come a point when you will be able to pull one or two blades out compleatly. Once you have the first two out the rest will come out with no bother.
BE CAREFULL when you reach the point of first removal as all the other blades are very close to coming out too!!!
