Does anyone have better photos of Mi24 and Mi28. There seems to be only few images of these beauties on the web and we all have seen them.
Here are two that you definitely didnt seen till now.
About number of Mi-24: as turboshaft wrote – it is big difference in the number of them in service and number that is in flight status. For example I read in Janeยดs that Slovakia has 61 military helicopters. I hardly computed 40. And the number of them that are flyable is even less. If we are talking about number in service, it can be between 700 and 800.
It’s not mine it’s AvWeek’s. Same story, believe it now?
Quick answer: NO
Full answer: OK, so I dont believe AvWeekยดs story posted by you.
Here is CAD picture of Frontier Systems W570 UAV. Do you really think that it can be equiped with (35 years old) ramjet engines? Mach 1,5 is fully enough to break the wing. It is the basic aerodynamic – you must avoid the contact of supersonic shock wave with wing and that is because all super and hypersonic planes are highly swept (triangular) in shape.
Second thing that I didnt mention: It is written in the text that Global Hawk does not have enough electric power to feed all required eqipment. But what about this plane? How the hell can ramjet produce energy when it doesnt have any moving parts?!? The only propulsion concept that can do it is magnetohydrodynamic plasma-chemical scramjet engine proposed for russian experimental plane AJAKS.
Of course, this dont mean, that I believe sferrins story.
Combination of B-2 like low speed flying wing fuselage with ramjets is crazy.
BTW, flying wing from Tier 2+ program can be Frontier Systems W570 (simplified Tier 3), but this design was very fast rejected because Frontier Systems used it without permission from Northrop and Boeing.
Okay, So the Brits aren’t happy and now its the Norwegians. Who is next ?
For example I. ๐ I dont like JSF as program from its beginnig.
USA dont want to share source codes. Who is producing them? Microsoft? ๐ ๐ ๐
I was still speaking that JSF programe is aimed primarily to kill aerospace industry worldwide except USA.
But I dont think that Britain will buy Rafales. If F-35 be not accepted, than the easier (in all aspects) solution will be modified airframe for navalized Typhoon. Mainly because hypotetical navalized Typhoon offers the same capabilities as Rafale.
Maybe this will help you a little. As was written before, Tomcat is made from aluminium and composite materials, so it dont look good.

I am not sure now, if the date of agreement between Dassault, Embraer, etc… that i posted here is correct or not.
Matej,
I can’t remember the issue but I read that a 767 bomber derivative was seriously studied at Boeing.
Can anybody add more details?
Antonio
The first project that I remember is Boeing 737 MMA (P-8A). I also have somewhere plans to feed B747 with ten small microfighters, etc…
Enjoy No. 2: Not a low-level, but the best music in fighter video.
I wrote a semestral work about brasilian F-X tender. First of all, I want to stress the most important point that was mentioned by swerve and that is THE RANGE OF THE GRIPEN. We are not talking about the nicest or the most responsive fighter, but about plane, that can match all brasilian needs. One of the three most important missions for it will be long-endurance patrol flights over big brasilian teritory. For example in Czech republic you can fly with Gripen 15 minutes and then must turn 180 degrees, or you confuse Slovakian or Austrian or German or Poland borders ๐ But the Brasil is much bigger country.
Second:offsets
At 3. April 2002 was signed cooperation agreement between Embraer, Dassault, Snecma Moteurs and Thales Airborne System and they created consortium Mirage 2000BR. The same thing can be done with Rafale. Dont forget, that Dassault is also partial shareholder of Embraer. Last but not least – Brasilia used for a long time Mirages and they can use part of existing equipment, weapons, know-how….
Sukhoi and Russia can cooperate with Brasil in the area of small regional commercial jets and in the space industry (russian rockets in Alcantara, flight of brasilian astronaut to ISS…)
SAAB is preffering to produce Gripens only in Sweden and also technological transfer is not at full level. If they have too much planes, how big is probability, that they will create new production line in Brasil (only for a few new planes)? The last are USA with F-16, because they offer only operation support and some technologies from AIM-120.
Thrid: costs
Su-35 was offered at about 35 mil. USD fly-away price level (lowest), but the main disadvantage were operating costs (because its two engines). Gripen was rated at 60 mil. USD, generaly the same as now Rafale.
Before original F-X cancellation, the most favorized were Mirage 2000BR and Su-35. I think that the only thing that changed is the replace of Mirage 2000 by Rafale.
PZl-105 comes to mind, but isent that some utility plane?? Anyway, it propaply had one engine from the MiG-19….
If the keyword is engine from MiG-19 (Tumanskij RD-9B), then the answer is TS-16RD Grot from 1958. There was also derivate TS-16 with two SO-2 engines rated at 9,8/14,7 kN with afterburner.
Like written for this topic (from april 1967).
I forgot the pics.
