    Hello bleeming,

I just got back from a quick visit to UK to visit my family and found this photo of the Uganda Police Airwing in one of our albums. Taken in Dec 1966.

Barry thank you very much for the info – I’m sure the Air Wing was a great place to be then, I have very fond memories of school and adventures in Entebbe and Uganda! As kids we built tree houses on the shores of Lake Victoria, chased snakes, collected chameleons and flying bats and wandered everywhere freely and had a real outdoors life. We all felt safe there. Having said that, I do now remember my Dad keeping a Thomson machine gun under his bed, and our dog was an ex-police doberman whom we adored! I have my fathers wartime log books and I will post an interesting photo of his wheels up landing in a Vampire jet in Indochina, with a hasty take-off to avoid the encroaching rebels! Good to talk with you. Regards, Andy

Hello Ivan, Thanks for that. That photo in a barn looks like it is being readied for painting, which may tie in with the current picture on Barnstormers.com, except that when I first saw it the colour scheme did not seem as I remember it but then that was many yaers ago!!! Regards, Andy

    Uganda.

    Hello Bleeming,
I was just searching through Barnstormers and came acrossthe Scout helicopter 5X-UUX that is for sale in England at the moment. Then came across this site and your post which was unexpected as I grew up in Entebbe during those years as my Dad was Lesczek “Jan” Jankowski, who flew the Scout and Caribou and Aztec in Uganda in those same years as you were there. I remember as a child going up in all 3 of those machines at one time or another. The sad ending was that my father was killed in a flying accident in Uganda in September 1967, of which I know little about, and would like to know more if you have any light to shed on this……I understood it to have been in one of the Scouts? When you look up the whereabouts of the 2 Scouts one apparently is preserved (where?) and the other was returned to England (where?). Maybe this one on Barnstormers.com is the UK returned one? Look forward to any info you may have here! Best Regards, Andy.
