By your own suggestion ‘crime is lower in areas of high gun-ownership’ so where are all the ‘unprevented’ murders from the higher-crime areas where less people own guns?

Chicago…. where gun ownership is illegal & has the highest murder rate in the US..

& then we have Kennesaw, Georgia… you may want to look that up…:

    Gun law

In 1982 the city passed an ordinance [Sec 34-21][17]

    (a) In order to provide for the emergency management of the city, and further in order to provide for and protect the safety, security and general welfare of the city and its inhabitants, every head of household residing in the city limits is required to maintain a firearm, together with ammunition therefore.
(b)Exempt from the effect of this section are those heads of households who suffer a physical or mental disability which would prohibit them from using such a firearm. Further exempt from the effect of this section are those heads of households who are paupers or who conscientiously oppose maintaining firearms as a result of beliefs or religious doctrine, or persons convicted of a felony.

Gun rights activist David Kopel has claimed that there is evidence that this gun law has reduced the incident rate of home burglaries citing that in the first year, home burglaries dropped from 65 before the ordinance, down to 26 in 1983, and to 11 in 1984.[18] Another report observed a noticeable reduction in burglary from 1981, the year before the ordinance was passed, to 1999. A 2001 media report stated that Kennesaw’s crime rates continued to decline and were well below the national average, making citizens feel safer and more secure.[19] Later research claims that there is no evidence that [the law] reduced the rate of home burglaries [in Kennesaw],[20][21] even though the overall crime rate had decreased by more than 50% between 1982 and 2005.[22]

The city’s website[23] claims the city has the lowest crime rate in the county.

I doubt Colt will end up as a housing estate. Its in the middle of nowhere,
    Bruce

That pretty much sums up the entire County…. 😉

Yes, exactly; I was actually referring to the crime committed by the perpetrator (I hate that word, but it serves a purpose here!) who put the law-abiding citizen ‘in fear of their life’.

For law-abiding citizens to have ‘defended’ themselves two-and-a-half million times with a firearm there must have been a perpetrator who put them ‘in fear of their life’ two-and-a-half million times.

And putting a law-abiding citizen in fear of their life would constitute a crime wouldn’t it? That is the crime I was referring to.

You misunderstood what I was saying. *Using* the gun when in fear of your life means shooting the perp dead… as opposed to just pointing it at the perp to make him think about his own mortality for a moment.

You’ll forgive me if I’m highly suspicious of some of the ‘facts’ contained in this article! 😉

I don’t see why, it lists ALL their sources, quite a few of which are from the FBI & the cops etc… unlike the *anti’s* who seeming pull their info/facts out of their ass most of the time. In fact just about every statement by the antis is quickly disproven or shown to be complete BS etc.

What situation, that required a firearm to defend oneself, wouldn’t constitute a crime in itself?

The basic criteria for using a gun to defend yourself is being in fear of your life, or fearing for the lives of those around you. That becomes justifiable homicide when you shoot to kill…as *shooting to wound* or scare someone doesn’t fall under “being in fear of your life” etc. That’s shooting the perp dead covered.
You can also use it to prevent crime without shooting the guy, then it’s still not a crime to point the gun as someone… or hold them at gunpoint until the PD show up 30 minutes later.
Brandishing a weapon in public with no reason falls under *crime*, which is why those of us who carry don’t go waving it about in public.
The law here is that you can have the gun within reach at your home & your business. My .40 is currently within reach as I type this because I was just cleaning it.
In other States you can open carry in a hip holster, but gun crimes don’t tend to occur where that is legal… go figure?

Hate to be obstinate, but trust me, the word “aero” simply isn’t used in the U. S. other than as “aerobatics.”

    Aero Union…

I came across another similar website last year that used Stalingrad as the back drop for the same kind of photos. I’ve also seen some from France.

In the FaceBook photos there was a comment about a friend of his digitizing hundreds of photos from some WWII Bomb Group. I’ll have to look through them again & find out exactly what he said.

How does ‘using a gun to defend’ oneself not count as a ‘violent crime’?

Because defending yourself is NOT A CRIME…. well, at least not in the US, we all know it IS in the UK.
