As my last thread is locked I will post here. The P40 just returned with wheels up before doing its run and break for landing after avoiding a Cessna over Ware in Hertfordshire on its return from Wellingborough.

So you’re saying that it did a run & break with the wheels up….

493!!! how on earth do you manage to fly round the course at that speed? (what I mean is and not go very wide)

Apparently a few pilots were *spoken to* after qualifying about flying too high. They were blasting around at 300ft AGL..

How the ruddy heck did that AN-2 manage to stay in the air today ? That blinkin great biplane turned in heading west, and just sat there, and sat there, and sat there.. with practically zero noticeable forward airspeed. I was transfixed in awe, expecting it to simply fall out of the sky (which thankfully it didnt) :).

Who says slow aircraft are boring? A remarkable aeroplane and even more remarkable display. Nice one.

    Rob

    Ever seen a C17 do an 80kt fly past?

It’ll be interesting to see what the *Vulcan Effect* does to the crowd size.. Not to mention there’s been a decided lack of Vulcan pics on Dx threads.. 😉

Nobody in the real world talks about compressor stall very much

    rgds baz

Was in the hangar at VNY one day & something large was suffering a severe bout of it as it came in. Sounded like an artillery barrage.

Rick, the issue was with the re-engined L-29s, AFAIK nobody has done this mod to an L-39.

    ah yes, my mistook.

There’s also the FAA issue with Saphire engined L39’s. Appears the guy who came up with the modification was also the FAA inspector who signed off on the mod…. without any engineering reports etc.
That’s why the modified ones were all grounded at Reno last year. Something about the engine mounts not be up to the task of handling 50% more power? Apparently a couple have landed with the engine somewhat askew to the airframe..
