There’s been about 20 crashes & the same number of fatalities since ’98:

I think most of the negativity towards Kermit comes from his habit of buying airworthy, flying aircraft & once he parks them they never fly again.

Oddly enough the same negativity doesn’t appear to be directed towards Yanks at Chino who restore countless aircraft to fully airworthy standards & they never even leave the hangar to make sure the engine runs…

Well, well – makes complete sense now, and also explains the lack of recoil from the gun (though the bang, flash and smoke cloud had to be experienced to be believed!).

Couple of years back there was a guy at the local range with a musket. The muzzle velocity of it was such that I could count to 4 after his gun went “whoosh” (no bang), then fire my Mosin & the bullets would arrive at the target 400 yards away at the same time 😉

Other highly modified unlimited have modified the horizontal stab angle so that at racing speeds the trim tab is pretty much in line with the stab & not sticking out into the airflow. Therefore not much stress on the tab. GG didn’t have this mod so the tab was sticking out a lot & under greater stress than that on Strega etc.

I know where one is, but it still works 🙂

Actually there might be more than one… all the guns on display at Wright-Patt museum work 🙂

I had assumed that the company in SA employed former WIWOL’s to look after the aircraft. That doesn’t appear to have been the case at all. Looks like the engine guy was only licensed to work on Gazelles?

EMP however offers a nuclear-capable state the opportunity to ‘attack’ the UK without killing anybody; imagine if every computer in the UK suddenly stopped working, not to mention every car, mobile phone and TV.

Not to mention knocking the entire electricity grid off line & shutting down ALL business… wouldn’t matter if your car wouldn’t start, you wouldn’t be able to buy fuel anyway..

Is there any other Il2s under restoration to fly?

There’s at least one more in Russia.
