It’s a hobby, and hobbies are not supposed to mean anything, they’re just supposed to be fun. “All work and no play….” remember.
What he said, but some have a practical side. I collect old tools, but not just every old tool I see. I go after stuff I will (or at least could) use (although having 30+ bench vises is a bit odd). I also collect old tech books/manuals
Last weekend I came home with this pile:

& this pre ’32 Union machinists chest:

…which after a quick going over with #0000 steel wool now looks like this:

I’m not done cleaning it yet.

The Germans were warmly greeted as they marched into the stadium… Camera caught one of their fans…

I would imagine that the numbers that need to hunt for food in the US in order to survive is pretty small. If they can afford guns and ammunition they can afford food.
Anyway, killing for food is different to killing for pleasure. Killing for enjoyment is a peculiarly human trait.
Really? you’re an expert on US gun, ammo & meat prices are you?
So lets have the cost of a fully butchered deer please? to the nearest $25 will be close enough.
Cost of a 7.62x54R rifle for hunting: $60.
Ammo for hunting your deer limit (3 I think), lets allow 5 rounds for bad markmanship, so 15 rounds: $2.00
Lets says 50lb of venison per animal & we now have 150lb of meat
So, cost of 3 deer chopped up & stuffed in the freezer: $62.
Cost of 150lb of fresh venison from the butchers?.. I;m guessing a bit more than $62….
& then the next year you only have the cost of the ammo as you alreday have the gun…. so…
Year 2 Costs:
Ammo: $2.00
Remind me again, how much is beef in the UK right now?

Girl I know is into this chem trail BS. When I called her on it one of her friends said “WTF would you know about aircraft?”…. Well lets see, I’ve been working on the damn things for decades
“Yes, but you don’t know whats in the trucks they use to fill the tanks do you?
Yes, I sometimes fuel aircraft with gasoline or kerosene”
But the people who work at airports & on aircraft are sworn to secrecy!”
Really? MILLIONS of people who work on aircraft are sworn to secrecy? I wasn’t..
FFS these morons give my ass a migraine.

I’m sorry. You’ve lost me. I was talking about hunting not target shooting which I can almost understand; but hunting? What purpose does it serve in a modern society in 2012? It might be enjoyable for some humans but certainly not for the animal. Fun and enjoyment out of killing? What sort of person would do that?
For millions of people on this planet (not just Americans) it fills the freezer & feeds their families. It’s all very well saying “but they have butchers in the US & cattle farms”… true, but you won’t be filling your freezer with farm raised/store bought meat for the cost of 3 or 4 bullets…
