Thats a great pic, please tell me more about ‘micro$oft thingie’ , how much of the planet does it cover ? where can you get it & does it cost $$$$$$

    I found it here:

Theres a road option, aerial & birdseye. That pic came from the birdseye option. Found 7 SR71’s at the local airfield using it, including the white one 🙂

The bit that also caught my eye was that HUGE piston (11x13in?) he bought for 25quid at some Pompey scrap yard. I’d love one of those to go on the mantel 🙂

Am I mistaken in thinking Charlie Church had parts of one?

Watched a prog about the Bismark the other night, they showed where it was built & laying there in the weeds was a lump of belt armour about 1ft thick. I guess it’s still there as no one can lift it…

    On a related note:
Sat in the pilots bar near Van Nuys about 10 years ago & someone asked what an *A24* was.. apparently the correct answer is an USAAC SBD. But while everyone was arguing about it my wife chips in with “I thought you lot knew aircraft? It’s an “Attack” Liberator”. Bought the coversation to a screeching halt LOL!!

Couple of years back we had a B17 visit, can’t remember which one, but it has a red rudder.
About 10 days later I get a call from a friend of mine who lives in the Bay Area (about 400 miles away) & he mentions that a B17 just flew over his house.

    Me: “With a red rudder?”
Him: “How the hell can you see it from Los Angeles????”

    Glastonbury this year.

Same place about 20+ years ago, a Police helicopter was doing low passes at about 500ft looking for illegal activity. At the time myself & a friend worked occasionally with fireworks & had a crate of flak simulators. They exploded somewhat higher than the helicopter (we didn’t aim directly at it obviously) & for some reason Sqdr Leader Dibble departed a bit sharpish after a swift volley of 9 simulators were launched.

Not sure what year exactly, but it was the same year the *long drop* by the farm house mysteriously exploded into flames…. 😉

On another occasion (different year) I went for one of the helo flights around the site. Made the stupid mistake of saying “gonna show us what this thing’l do then?” just before take off  A somewhat spirited flight followed & when we had landed & I had recovered the power of speech I asekd the pilot how many hours he had..
    His reply:
“Not many, during the week I fly Vulcans”

Moral of this story: NEVER!!! get into a helicopter flown by a bomber pilot…
