Dependent on cost the 15A/141 and / or lookalikes sounds interesting

Can’t help you with identification Alan, but if you’ve got an Observers type (chest) going spare we’d be interested

    Thanks guys

In reality it doesn’t take us long to make something it’s the lack of information that slows us down and the amount of research you have to undertake for even the smallest parts.

just to prove that we’re still here, here’s a quick update. As it’s that time of year, many of the group have been on some well deserved holiday, needless to say though work is still progressing.

We’ve been joined by an ex-commercial Flight Engineer (John Ashby) who has taken on the restoration of the FE Fuel C0ck controls and also the pilots escape hatch.

We’ve now connected up the flightdeck rudder controls between Fr3 and Fr6 and will be adding some sort of tensioning so that budding pilots can play hanger pilot.

I’ve been working on the fwd control column stop assembly, which being a Shorts design is massively OTT, must say a quick thanks to Martin (Hindenburg of these parts) who gave us access to his original item for measuring purposes. 🙂 The photos below show the 1st Pilots side which is slightly more complex that the 2nd Pilots as it also doubles as the mount for the control column ground lock struts.

The mount for the Lorenz Indicator has now been fabricated by Cliff and is installed on the main instrument panel, luckily we found some original spec shock mounts for this assembly

Kev has fabricated three of the various wooden floor panels for the flightdeck, the centre one between the seats is finished and needs painting and the 1st Pilots’ one between frames 4 & 5 is nearing completion with the Glycol pump now installed. These are of wooden sandwich construction.

Certainly on a Stirling there is a raised step behind the 2nd pilot with it’s own armour plating that is referred to as the Fire Controller position. Anecdotally, the view from a Stirling was supposed to be pretty good

Had a look at the pics (didn’t realise they’d been on the Stirling forum for some time!!), one of the images looks to be of the glider towing yoke, and another appears to show one of the recessed handles used to lift the fold down steps between the pilots’ seats

That would be Sterling Rd in Cambourne; and no it hasn’t changed.

My wife’s best friend lives in Lancaster Rd in Cardington 🙂

    Thanks Windhover

I’ve let the chap know and he’s now going to donate it to the Jet Age Museum, so it’ll be going to a good home 🙂
