I certainly recall the Vampire pod in the weeds in 83/84
If so, then that’s a nice find then Kev
Thanks Bill T and Denis for the encouragement.
Moving into new workshop next weekend (hopefully:eagerness:(
There’s a lot of it and it was something that we could farm out in one job lot. There are some other items that we’re considering getting laser cut as this will get the maximum number of components out of the material; gusset plates, cleats etc
John
thanks for the kind comments Neil
Currently it is our intention to build as far back as Frame 16 which is the front spar and where the Flight Engineers’ controls are situated. This will encompass all of the major crew positions (1st/2nd Pilots, Bomb Aimer, Navigator, W/Op and Front Gunner). This in itself is a major undertaking and will be approx 25′ long 7’6″ wide and approx 12″ from the base of the fuselage to the top of the cockpit coupe, it would be great to go further aft to the transport joint but the logistics of building it at present let alone move it at a later date. saying that, as the structure aft of Fr 16 is fairly constant in design and manufacture it shouldn’t be too difficult to splice further sections in at a later date.

John

A major step forward for the Project has seen us take delivery of approx 300′ of stringer material (which is about half of the final total of this type needed), this is with great thanks to Teversham Engineering Ltd in Cambridge especially David Allsopp and Steve Grantham) who have kindly formed the material provided by us free of charge. The remaining 300′ plus 150′ of ‘z’ profile stringer is currently being worked on by them.
Additionally, the Project is hoping to move into new premises in the next few weeks which will hopefully allow us to have some much needed stability, next step the laying down of the bomb bay jig

Hi Dave
Out of interest what’s the date of your AP?
John
Not necessarily Kev.
I’ll do some digging
I can suggest contacting ‘Air Ministry’ on the Forum, he has produced a book on aircraft electrical armament installations which has been invaluable in sourcing equipment for our Stirling.
John
Well said:applause:
Thanks Elliott
Yours is coming along a treat too. Don’t forget if there’s any way we can help, just ask
John
Funnily enough I was going to ask how your project was going on our thread but you’ve beaten me to it
Looking good mate, nice to see the hardware coming together
John
Thanks Rob
Might have to remake a couple of the spacers separating the plates either side of the pulleys as they’re binding in a couple of places.
Going back a long way (post #333 no less), we’d made the mounting structure for the throttle pulleys which was mounted beneath the flightdeck. In the intervening time, what with workshop moves etc, the remaining parts had still to be attached. I was able to finish this off from the comfort of my own dining table and the results are here complete with some pics of the unrestored parts.
