They are taken at points further along the runway where higher ground allows you to shoot over the fence (which is not as high as the part at the 28 threshold). A ladder helps but is not essential.
she would make a wonderful exhibit at Elvington. Whats the Jet next to her?
If you mean beside the Catalina, that is a twin Cessna sans props – possible a model 401.
Once delivered to Dublin, new Ryanair aircraft have always been put into service fairly immediately. EI-ESY entered service this morning, on DUB-BHX I think. EI-ESZ has not flown in service yet but I’d be surprised if it does not do so in the next few days.
Thank you – the sun was just going down and I took this at a speed of 1/100 sec.
Excellent photos.
To quote the ukserials.com website, “”Broken Blocks” (NOTE, NOT the often mis-quoted “Blackout Blocks”) were incorporated into serial batches in order to disguise the true quantities of aircraft ordered or in service, but this practice has now ceased.”
Anybody know if a Firefly was in the air yesterday?
Apart from a very fleeting glimpse which gave the impression of a white fuselage with a large roundel on the side I only got the bins on it for a dead-on rear view.
Merlin engine definitely – but did not sound quite right for a Mustang (which I thought it might be for a moment) – and besides I couldn’t see the give-away ventral cooler – so Firefly without the wing tank and radar is my best guess.
Flying North over Ware (A10 visual) mid afternoon.
Anyone see it?
There aren’t any airworthy Fairey Fireflies in the UK since the loss of the RNHF one at Duxford some years back.
Can’t have enough amphibious photos! Looks as though N9767 reversed into the parked yacht?:D
I believe it drifted backwards after its engines were cut.
It has its moments – this was one of the better days! The Twin Otter is a survey aircraft but I’m not sure where it is to be based for whatever work it is doing.
What is the DC-7C carrying on its back?
It was one of three used in connection with the French nuclear testing programme and this is some sort of tracking unit, I think.
What is the Islander-like high-wing twin in photo 11 of the first batch?
It’s an Aero Commander.
What is the twin-tailwheel jet next to the lovely Caravelle? Seen it before but can’t remember the name!

Clearly it has moved from the police compound to the much more secure and nearby El Adem airbase.
As NATO forces have no doubt subjected the major Libyan air force facilities, such as Gamal Abdul El Nasser Air Base, to attack in recent months, let’s hope that the B-24 has survived unscathed.
It turns out it wasn’t really lost after all:
Another little bird had it that another of the A340-500s that was built for Kingfisher but never delivered was to be prepared for HiFly.
Dare I say that the Vulcan looks at least as good as, if not better than, XH558! I certainly prefer the colour scheme on ‘655, which is more representative of how most Vulcans looked in the 1970s/’80s.
