Mods – this thread has long since given up being about Historic Aviation (if ever it really was), I feel it’s more appropriate in General.
You realise you’re probably going to get a lot of pics of the Desford, old chap ?…….
Scans from prints – Skeeter at Hatfield, sometime in the 80’s; big Russian jobby at Farnborough in the 90’s
Hi all!
I new to this forum, however I was looking for some info, and I thought this would be a great place to try. I am currenly helping to restore Victor B.1a (XH592) cockpit section at Bruntingthorpe, and we are trying to complete the rear panels, mainly through making panels from scratch where we can.
However, as we are trying to make it quite accurate, we are looking for some illustrations or pictures of the AEO, Nav, and Radar Nav’s positions in the B.1a, as it is different from the later tanker varients. Would anyone be able to help? Thanks very much,
Tom
I presume you’ve seen the various illustrations in vol. 1 of Roger Brooks books on the Victor? The pics in there are of the Duxford example.

Scan from print – XH558 plus Reds at Vulcan farewell show, Cranfield 93.
I have various other pics of Vulcans secreted away, must try and find.
Vamps & Venoms scanned from prints – nothing too old, though
This is either Dux or Kemble… I think
……a final few from Heathrow in the 70’s; if somebody wants to do a bit of research and nail the date, that Seaboard World 747 was the first revenue earning flight out of LHR by a pure 747 freighter (or so I was told).
….and a few more…..
I have about 60 or so slides taken from the Queens Building, dating from the mid-70’s period. If anyone is interested I will try to scan and post – but, be warned, the quality can best be described as indifferent (and I’m no good with Photoshop).
I’ve scanned some of the slides mentioned above – a slight degree of editing has taken place, but there’s lots of ‘debris’ on some of the images which I haven’t attempted to remove. There’s also considerable grain in some shots where I was using an early 400 ASA slide film. These were taken using a humble (i.e. cheap) Russian Zenit SLR camera with an inexpensive telephoto.
Enjoy, if you can.
Pics from SBAC Farnborough 1970, scanned from 38 year old photos taken with a simple point and shoot, so apologies for technical c**pness.
Happy days.
I spent many a happy day there with my dad up there on the Queen’s Building. We used to go very regularly.
Oh the days when you could get in the middle and watch the planes go by. Then they started to shrink the space and finally closed it. 🙁
Any more please?
