You mean like the Falklands? Not to mention British Guyana only became independent in what… 1981?
Besides, France also has got islands in the Pacific, the Indian Ocean (just like the UK by the way, except you’ve leased Diego Garcia to the US after deporting the original residents) and Northern Atlantic just off Newfoundland (St. Pierre and Miquelon).
Very useful things to have, these odd scraps of land in strange places, ‘cos you can apply to extend the territorial limit to 200 miles offshore and then search for oil & gas.
Or you could leave the words out completely.
Elgar wrote it as an instrumental piece, after all.
Anyway, how about the “Dambusters March”?
….wouldn’t that irritate Jerry, what, old chap ?….

Siskin:)
Seconded 🙂
Eh ? Leavesden closed decades ago. The Six was flying home to Coventry after appearing at the Biggin Hill Air Show over the weekend.
Another for the DH89A Rapide but this was one of those operated on pleasure flights by Island Airways from London Airport, as we called Heathrow at the time which was Easter 1952 (or was it 53?). I think the regn. was G-AGJG – well it was one of the ones in a dark blue scheme. I can’t recall if Aggie was the pilot!
likewise,1955, seem to remember it cost my sister’s boyfriend 5/- (25p)
Thanks, TF. I thought the position looked a bit familiar – confirmed when your camera panned across the back of an ageing geezer in a purple fleece and green gardening hat (Mrs. 91Regal reckons it’s my best side). I managed to get some decent footage – well, decent by my standards – but thankfully with less people in the way. The golden rule of airshows is get there early, and get by the fence:D.
Yak 11 ‘buzzed’ Panshanger approx. 15.30hrs, flew away SW, returned 15 minutes later – on his way home, presumably, which is where ? what a lovely sound from the big radial up front – a bit like an old tractor, but still a lovely sound:)
Answering my own question, Yak was up on a check flight from Dux with recent purchaser – departed for its new home in Iceland a few days later.
With the current high prices for scrap metal, I would have thought that a band of pikey ‘recyclers’ with gas cutter and barge could make a fortune out of these.

Puma helicopter visited Panshanger around 13.30hrs today, most unusual, for what purpose I wonder?
Thank you all for the interesting replies. I will not be able to get any more scans done until my colleague has more time. However I have had a look at some of the other negs and can read several serial numbers. Here are a few if these are of any interest to anyone:
G-ALMR – appears to be a DeHavilland Dove? Many flags on forward cockpit.
G-5-2 with a ‘P’ in circle – Venom/Vampire?
G-ALGV – Comet Jet?
VR592 with large ’79’ code
VV612 with a ‘P’ in circle
VX784 with a ‘P’ in circleKind regards – Malcolm.
VV612 was the D.H. Venom prototype, first flight 02.09.49, and VX784 was the Avro 707 prototype, first flight 04.09.49. Both the above pics probably from the ’49 Farnborough show. The Avro 707 prototype lasted less than a month, crashing fatally on 30.09.49, so a negative of that must be quite rare.
nice hound. what breed is it ?

why the time gap of 30 or so months between first and second posts ? did I slip into an alternative reality for that amount of time, and have only just come out of it ?
