There is an element of national pride in operating a military Air Sea Rescue service. The government keeps going on about broken Britain. Isn’t this just another way to break it?
I’m proud when I sea a British, RN, RAF or whatever Air Sea Rescue helicopter fly over. Don’t think I’ll feel the same with Joe Blogs Rescue Servs.

“yep I wasnt quick enough on the edit button
heres a picture of the ship, which is berthed at the same place as its predecessor was before it set off for the Doolittle mission..”
Now famous for being the Mythbusters testing ground.
It would be fascinating if, in a 1000 years someone recovers the Lunar Landers from the Moon. I wouldn’t be surprised if settlers turn one into a monument ON the moon!
Didn’t they recover a Gemini capsule from the ocean floor a few years ago?
Isn’t there a Lancaster Whiskey sold at the Mohne Dam?

Are you doing this for fun or will the model be used for something?
Surprised to see the military poring over, and in the wreckage. You would think they would be trying to preserve the site to determine what happened? Looks like a relatively low, although fatal, impact. Most of the aircraft having survived.
Sad for the pilots and families none the less.
Scarborough is a horrible, vile place for shops, and we’re about to lose our HMV next week. When we first moved here there was a good variety of shops – nice butchers shops, nice fishmongers, greengrocers etc, but as they have closed down they’ve been replaced by cafes pretending to be butchers shops and bookshops, tat shops (cheap shops), £1 shops, pawnbrokers, cheque cashing. If we want to shop in nice quality places we have to go to Helmsley, Malton, Pickering, York, Beverley or Harrogate.
Thirsk has suffered a little over time. First the Tesco, then the car parking charges. Not the quiet little town I remember from 15-20 years ago.

Why did the FAA museum get rid of her?
Can’t be too many Gladiators around. Does the FAA museum have another?
Personally I hate the undercover, jelly mold shopping centers.
We (me and the missus) always go to the out of town or old town centers.
Although we tend to like bookshops, model shops, pet shops and Charity shops the most, which I admit isn’t going to save them.
What is really killing small towns for the occasional shopper are parking prices.
Worthing for example, £5 for a few hours. This is expensive considering a lot of the shops have closed and Worthing is a relatively poor area.
Compare that to Dorking (quite posh) where the same stay is £1.
That’s the difference between Council and NCP.

Is flying a few aircraft at an airshow really that expensive?
The crews who fly these aircraft will presumably still be flying, and still costing the public. The ground crews still employed. The support vehicles still used. The display aircraft may be mothballed but these pilots will still be flying something. The mothballed aircraft will still be serviced, tested, cycled to ensure they don’t go wrong. Aren’t these costs just a continual thing regardless of whether you actual use them or not. Flying at an airshow just means the aircraft are offsite rather than on base?
Sounds like bean counters shuffling money about to me.
If the USA is that broke then why bother with an airforce at all.
