Have museums considered placing all of their images on the internet and making them public domain?
Disaster can strike any organization. Digital media can be lost. By placing them online (as well as using other backup mediums) you have a way of retrieving lost images from public collections.
I have been able to purchase previously lost or deleted films this way.

Early CD’s will deteriorate in some instances within 20 years. Modern DVD’s about 100 years. Even so you need a policy of re-copying the data periodically. As the size of collections grows into terabytes of data this is going to get time consuming and costly.

My own personal data for example is backed up across disc’s, across 2 pc’s, onto external discs and DVDs. Even so I still place some images online and keep a hard-copy.

    Isn’t that a bit worrying?
Glad no one had to use it for real!

A night taxi is definitely on my to-do list.
Does anyone have pictures of the Halifax the Panton brother was killed in or any information on it’s loss ? I would quite like to model my Airfix Halifax in those markings.

After Lincolnshire we popped to Easingwold in Yorkshire. The George pub had a regular called Jack Currie. He was a Lancaster pilot. Does anyone have pictures or information on this person ?

I visited Kermits Museum in 2000. While I never spoke to him personally he did give the visitors a talk about an (I think) Avro 504 he was restoring and ran the engine up for us (we also got an air display by an Ag Cat and a banner pickup demo. Not something you normally get for a few pounds entrance fee!). He also mentioned plans to build a seaplane base. We then had a tour of his storage facility and engine cash. Everything from Lancs, Blenheims, Migs, Merlins, Alisons and DB engines. There was also a recently restored Douglas Marauder out in the sun.

I am sure eventually those airframes in store will be restored and I wouldn’t mind betting some will return to the UK.

We should be glad people buy and store these old airframes. Doug Arnold, Kermit Weeks and many others by their hoarding activities are giving us the chance to see them again. After all if they are not stored they will be smelted.

Aircraft are pretty sturdy things but I’m always amazed how easy they come apart in a mid air. Something to definitely avoid!

Probably the most well known and worst loss was the KC-135 and B-52G off the Spanish coast in 1966. Seven crew members were killed but four of the B-52 crew were able to escape, the four nuclear weapons were recovered, one after a long undersea search.

The incident I was thinking of was between a Phantom and a C130 refueling tanker. The Phantom hit head on the tanker while it was tanking several other aircraft. The Phantom and the C130 crew were lost IIRC. At least one of the tanking aircraft was damaged or lost. Apprarently the Phantom made a **** up of the approach proceedure and attempted to tank in the wrong direction to the others.

One things for sure. I’ll be attending as many Vulcan shows next year as I can. If it is the last year might as well make the most of it!

As the movie was taken from the tanker isn’t release of such information a breach of official secrets? Personally I wouldn’t want to end up on a charge posting such a thing on You Tube especially with all the pain that can get you into. Pretty scary though but I guess the military is a pretty scary enviroment anyway.

Wasn’t there a Phantom Tanker mid-air during the Vietnam war?

The Mosquito and the Anson have got to be the greatest restorations in the last 10 years, possibly longer. Would love to get the chance to see them. 😮

If the crew are identified are their names removed from the Runnymead Memorial?

Interestingly I spotted a captured Storch in Corgis range of models in Modelzone on the weekend.

Dogs are better as they can’t get into our garden to crap in it or bother our guinea pigs. Cats however do get in to our garden and treat it as their lavatory. Some deterrence is required. Humane or otherwise.

    Cats. Pets for lazy owners.

    I’ll counter that claim.
Cats poo in the neighbours garden and hide it. Dogs poo in their own garden right where you will probably step.
