Has anyone been to the CAF in recent years.
Last time I went was in 98.
What’s it like now, was thinking of revisiting.
Does it matter, it’s only a sheet of metal at the end of the day. As long as the spirit lives on.
The TV mini series `Generation Kill` based on a true story of a US Recon Team in Iraq.
Trombly the SAW gunner asks if he can `shoot those dogs` and the Sarge replies `Trombly, we are US Marines. We don’t shoot dogs only people, and then only when carrying a gun`.
An interesting aside. My dad served on HMS Anson during WW2. He was often asked to be part of a shore patrol and ordered to `shoot dogs on site` because of the risk of rabies. However, as he was issued a Thompson he probably would have taken out several people as well!
Website form crypto codes, you know the ones. Strange graphic representation of random letters and numbers against a jazzy background to prevent bots spamming forums.
The problem I have with them is that most are UNREADABLE BY HUMANS!

Yes it was a long time ago but I clearly remember seeing EE606 and thinking how good it looked. Spare a thought Sunday as it’s twenty three years ago this weekend that Charles Church lost his life in EE606, who knows what might have been had he still been around.
Did he die after the Boscombe Down BoB display?
I remember seeing the Green and Blue twin seater, possibly the single seater. Nothing flew on the Saturday due to high cross wind.
Again small world as I now live opposite Blackbush airport, not far from where he crashed and in a Charles Church House.
I agree ’89. I walked from Whittlesford Station (was it called Classic Fighters then?) and arrived just as the Buchons were taking off. A glorious racket.
I was in awe of EE606, which may have been the first of the “new-build” Spitfires. I had never seen anything so gorgeous (even in its glossy camo!). To think it only lasted a few more weeks.
I’ll have a mass scan of photos one day…..
Wow, small world. I walked from Whittlesford too. It was a gloriously hot summer day. I arrived about 2pm. There were not many people around, very peaceful and quiet when overhead from behind the hangers arrived 5 P51’s in formation, low level, all in the same colour scheme. Could have been 1944 all over again!
One of my fondest memories.
That would have been around 1989. Filming Memphis Belle.
I have a similar picture with all three 109’s in the same camo.
When I went there were 3 Buchons, 5 P51’s (all same camo), and 5 B17’s as well as an Avenger, Tigercat, Harvard and possibly a B25 on the flight line.
Your picture must have been just before that.
In the background is a Richtofen Pilatus PC2 pretending to be a `baddie`.
18.55hrs Blades heading home me thinks 🙂 over Camberley 😀
Missed that one! Wonder why they like Camberley? The new Wilkinson perhaps 🙂
Thanks for the info.
Is this out of sync model designation just at the whim of the manufacturer and something common to allied aircraft. You don’t tend to get an Me109-G comming before an E for example (or maybe you do?).
I don’t think you should throw away your enamels just yet.
With enamels you need to thin your paint and apply several light coats.
These models are all painted with enamel.

For those of you unaware, the former Battle of Britain airfield at North Weald (just off the Harlow/Epping junction of the M11) hosts a large open air market every Saturday. The market immediately adjoins the runway and vehicles may park just a few dozen yards from the runway.
The net result is that every Saturday is air show day at North Weald. There are regular flights by Gnats, Jet Provosts, plus a Hurricane, a Spitfire, a P-40, a P-51 and a variety of privately owned aeroplanes.
This is just a selection:

I remember that smoke ring!
Moving the Green and Red men on Pedestrian Traffic Lights from the obvious `in front of you and easy to see` position to the impossible `down low, to one side, behind all the people` position.
That had to be a management decision!

Wasn’t the cause a control restriction caused by a modification of the seat harness?
Sad, as I thought the aircraft looked good in her wartime ambulance scheme.
Did the airframe survive?
