Not the only one to enjoy the gusts, the first Nimrod had an exciting moment. We lost the WW1 element from the programme but that was the only loss, I think. Not bad for the conditions.

    Not the cockpit glass armour.
If you follow the panel that’s over the fuel tank down to the side you can see the edge of the panel is standing proud, hence there’s a shadow.
    Is that armour?
One of the aircraft has a small window on that panel.

A quick question regarding the Spitfires.
If you look at the picture with the pilots close-up, one of the nose cowlings is a rather poor fit (or so it seems).
This is obviously correct as it is the same on all three.
So why is it like that?

    Duxford Saturday June 30th:

There will be plenty of Legends coverage on threads elsewhere, but I can’t overlook one of the many highlights. Thanks to the whole Legends team, and especially from left to right Mr Romain, Mr Hinton and Mr Grey:

    0692:Spitfire Spitfire Spitfire

What’s up (or rather down) with the Spitfires u/c?

    Another celebrity marriage fails, yawn.
Is it me or are these weddings just celebrity convenience.
Mind you if it’s her or the Mustang, no brainer really.

I’m not American but I can sympathise regarding the loss of industry.
When I left school I worked in a Bonded Warehouse in London. Now it’s a night club.
I then worked for Beefeater Gin in London. Now it’s a Tesco.
I then worked for the IT arm of the NHS which is now disbanded.
Not to mention all the ancillary companies that have also gone.

    Myself;
    Outsourced 1994.
    Insourced 2003.
    Outsorced 2005.
    Redundant 2009.
Up for Redundancy 2012 but not selected.

Problem I have with no manual work to fall back on, and getting on a bit with age, should I be made redundant again I will probably spend the last few years of my working life working hand to mouth doing very low paid jobs.

Sad, but that’s the UK for you.

I don’t rearly understand the politics of war. People killing people at the end of the day. One mans noble cause is another mans folly I guess. Not for me to judge. Wasn’t there, can’t experience that period of history.

For me Bomber Command are the aircraft, the exploits, the heroism, the sacrifice and the people who fought, flew and maintained those aircraft.
It’s the stories, the museums, the ghostly haunted old airbases, the old black and white films and the collection of models on my shelf.
Ultimately it’s the memorials, the reflection and the gratitude that I don’t have to do what they did.

For hampden98, RAF Oakley by the M40 east of Oxford.

Thanks for the info. Certainly a place to visit to experience what an RAF bomber base was like from the looks of it. I guess I would need to contact the owner somehow?

    No, definitely not.
We need better mixed shows. Duxford has cornered the Warbird market. But I miss Biggin Hill and North Weald for all round entertainment, Mildenhall for Heavy metal. Its that mix of warbird, classic jet, modern and aerobatic displays, with para’s, choppers I miss. With interesting stalls for a wander around.
The problem with Warbird only shows is that there are not that many warbirds to go around.
Also Duxford isn’t really a relaxed stroll more aplonk down and watch display. I like being able to browse when something not to my taste is on.
    We need variety.

The F16 at Duxford Jubilee show, outstanding.

BTW why no North Weald warbirdy fly in this year. Rather liked the one last year in all it’s smoky warbirdiness.

    Any news on the Vulcan?
