I have to admit since the AAIB upgraded their website it’s not very intuitive to use. Preferred the simpler, and easier old site.
I would love to hear a V1 Doodle Bug fire up and run it’s engine!
There’s a couple at Duxford. So how hard would it be. I understand it was a very basic design.
Has anyone tried knitting elastic?
It’s meant to be very good for 1:72nd biplanes.
I have some on order. Not tried it yet. About £4 for a reel and delivery on Amazon.
Wouldn’t it be great to see this P40, with the Pearl Harbour Warhawk and an authentic Zero!
Now, that’s what I would call a Flying Legends 2013!
Friday 1pm C130 Hercules over Reading 1pm. Keeping low under the cloud.
Also heard a heavy radial engine but couldn’t see the aircraft.
The BBMF Lancaster has Lincoln tail fins as does the Duxford Avro York.
This fin has a straight edge instead of the normal oval shape.
The more you look at the Spitfire the more you realise what an unnescessary construction it is. The way the wings totally fail to mate with the fuselage requiring a lot of time intensive fairing (I would imaginge, never built one myself of course). Still, a beautifull aircraft none the less.
“Strangely, the car suddenly accelerated into the lorry and the car went careering into the side of the loading board.”
Sounds like the missus trying to park.

So what’s the deal with the Vulcan now?
If they loose another engine is that it, or can they repair, source other engines?
While we are on the subject of Spitfires, here is a great shot recently sent to me by Fred Taylor of TD248 in Hangar 2 today:
The aircraft behind the Buchon, is that a Harvard or a Yale?
Accidents happen and it’s very sad when they do.
I’ve always considered Old Warden the safest and nicest air show in the UK.
Peaceful surroundings, Gardens, Birds of Prey and a nice selection of vintage aircraft.
Will definitely be going this year (and taking my mum). The only reason I haven’t been yet the awful weather.
Duxford Monday July 2nd:
As if to highlight the weekend’s brilliance, today saw a return to British Summer Time. A few visitors extended their stay at Duxford, including the Old Warden based Lysander and Storch:
What are the three funny bulb things in the Spitfire cockpit.
They don’t appear to be connected to anything?
Funny but we consider display pilots at 30, 35 to be youngsters.
How old were the fighter pilots who originally flew these aircraft? 21-22.
Although the display was spaced out with a few gaps I thought most of the displays were good.
The Storch was excellent, as was Sally B and the P47. Spitfire formation was nice and the Sea Fury with Smoke Winders interesting especially watching the smoke trails merging then collapsing with a pop to form nice smoke rings.
The two Hawker Biplanes probably the noisiest biplanes I’ve ever seen, and how they got the triplanes off the ground with all that wind?
Not many people at the show Sunday though, very quite for a Legends. Guess that must be due to the date, footie and clashing with other displays.
The run and breaks were a little more spaced out and gentle this year which I think is good. I do get a little worried with all the power climbs sometimes, can’t help myself willing those planes over the top 🙂
But on the whole, and with the stalls and museum a good day out.
