The above picture, are those Tallboy hits? The bouncing bomb had to be dropped in water to explode?

Isn’t it about time we stopped arguing the rights on wrongs of the decision and started discussing what happens next.
Like it or not it’s a reality.

Single Merlin warbird, type unknown, fast over Blackwater presumably heading Farnborough 12:00 today.

I’ve always seen the first world war as a stalemate between old military tactics and modern technology. A point in military history that had to happen
in order to develop new ways of waging war without the cost and suffering.
The reason the Somme happened (IMHO) was because our tactics just couldn’t cope with mechanization in terms of machine guns and artillery.
Lack of mobility, viable air support and communications, combined with extended lines that couldn’t be circumvented what else could you do?

Technology was sufficiently developed to cause carnage but not to be able to deal with a trench war situation.

From what I have read and seen on tv the Somme wasn’t a complete disaster. Some gains were made and like all battles it weakened the enemy and
ultimately lead to victory. The real question is not was it a success or failure, more a case of were the casualties acceptable? In humanitarian terms was it acceptable?

I don’t think it was and today you wouldn’t get away with it.

50’000 casualties. I can’t even comprehend that figure.

    America has already back tracked.

Before the referendum vote, Obahma “The UK will be at the back of the queue…”
After the vote “we will continue the special relation ship with UK”

There seems to be an agenda to mock and scare monger the decision.
When Brexit shows to be a good decision shall we adorn our vehicles with,

    I TOLD YOU SO!

There are rumours circulating in the media that Brexit will be overturned.
Either vetoed, a new referendum or a snap election.
Is this possible or even legal?

I’m happy if they scrub this year, get the aircraft 100% for next year.
    Safety first.

I did walk through a B-17 at Kermit Weeks museum in Florida. There were films running viewed on screens through the Bomb bay and waist gun positions if I remember correctly. There may also have been a viewed scenario through the cockpit windows. But my memory lets me down on that part, but the idea is ‘do-able’

Yeah, like that. But not necesarilly with a real aeroplane.

Have you climbed through a bomber? It’s not exactly easy going, even the likes of the Newark Shack isn’t the easiest to traversed, wasn’t the Hendon Sunderland open to visitors?

The VC10 tanker was simply a stripped out fuselage with long cylindrical fuel tanks running down it, not exactly inspiring to look at, the tanking being done from a TV screen in the cockpit.

You would need something like a KC 135 with the bed in the back to lay on while you manipulate the boom viewing it through a window.

No, I mean a prefabricated airplane where you can literally walk through the interior. Each station is made to look like the real thing, with real parts. Sort of like an exploded view.
Opened out so there are no space restrictions.
So maybe you could board at the front and see, hear the pilots going through preflight.
As you progress through the interior you encounter the other stations, perhaps with models, things to press (like buttons with `don’t press` on them always good with kids).
The tail end is an opening where you can see and hear the Typhoons. I like the boom idea.
A bit like a smaller aviation version of the carrier experience.

How about a C47 experience where you hear and see the para’s while they drop at Arnham?
Just ideas, probably not practical or cost effective.

As a kid (and older kid) the walk through diorama’s at Hendon (like the BoB experience air raid shelter entrance) always stuck in my mind.
Sort of like a Land Warfare hall for planes.

Something that concerned me was Obama’s comment after the 49 deaths at the recent club shooting.
“We must prevent potential terrorists, or people convicted of such crimes to be able to legally obtain an assault rifle”.
Implying that it’s fine for everyone else to own one?

I also watched on TV a us cop program where an SRV was searched and they found (quite legal) two 44 magnum ammo speed loaders.
One has to ask what threat the average American feels they will encounter while on holiday, in their own country, to warrant 12 rounds of .44 ?

I never really see the point of repeat endeavors such as these, except just the obvious excitement, personal challenge and fun of doing so.
But I wouldn’t wish her ill. Seemed a nice enough person and no doubt hurting at the loss of the aircraft.

I’ve always enjoyed walk through, interactive exhibits.
How about a walk through exhibit, not a real aircraft but the prefabricated inside of an aircraft where every station is
interactive, crew talk, mission sounds, smells etc.
Doesn’t have to be WW2. How about a Modern, tanker refuel scenario where you can look out the back of the aircraft and see Typhoons tanking.

    Thanks for the replies.
I’m not sure what would happen if the glass was hot. I guess that would show on the IR sensor.
However regardless of the heat behind the glass masks the target.
IR cannot pass through glass, presumably because the holes in glass are not big enough. Microscopic holes that is.
