Not this AGAIN! PA474 was BUILT with the enlarged rudder type of fins; they became the norm on later production Lancs.
Can you answer this question which has always interested me. Why does the type of tailfin the Lancaster currently have have a flat edge at the bottom?
Was this to prevent grounding or just a manufacturing nicety?
Will the A-74 that Vintech are overhauling run on castor oil?
Does that also mean anyone who fly’s it will get the runs?
The proximity of the airfield to both the M11 and Stansted makes it difficult for North Weald to host a full on airshow sadly.
And the proximity to Duxford and the M11?
Always with those negative vibes Moriaty.
Maybe someone has taken a good look at the May show, the regulation and discussed and got agreement for a novel solution, maybe that is what has happened, maybe it has taken a lot of behind the scenes work to get something that works and is within the regulations. Maybe we should be thankful they have done this so we have an airshow, Maybe.
For those of us who park on the airfield side can anyone quantify how far the tank bank exclusion zone reaches?
People parking near the tank bank will not be able to return to their vehicles during the show. A real pain if you like to drop of purchases, or pick up food, chairs etc to
save lugging them around the show.
He might have been emulating the original email.
It’s my keyboard. Wireless. When the signal or batts start to die it misses letters.
If I’m lazy proof reading I miss them :p
America needs to pass a law to ban the sale of all auto and semi-auto weapons.
Then at least when a nutter goes awol the death toll will be smaller.
Ignoring Shoreham for a moment haven’t airshows been slowly dying out anyway?
We have lost Boscombe Down, Abingdon, Mildenhall, North Weald, Biggin Hill (to some extent), West Malling, Middle Wallop, not to mention Seaside Venues.
I bet we could add quite a few more to the list.
Mostly due to costs I suspect.
I think it would brighten up displays to have a few unusually coloured fighters.
That’s why I love the Reno Furies.
If this is armor plate how would the flak get a near right angle impact assuming the armor was affixed to a vertical surface such as seat?
Do we know what altitude the bomber was shot up? 37mm effective range was 4300 meters. So the bomber would have been quite low at 12’000 feet
If this is scaffolding see picture of modern day feet below.

Could the plate have been a fixture on the B17, such as a pintle mounting or seat fixing?
Is Farnborough still concidered a trade show? I’ve never really thought of it as a true air show. With the demise of the Cold War, and war in general there’s not much of interest (for me).
As to safety. Farnborough is in the centre of a major town. An aircraft doing 400 knots in distress could land anywhere. The notion it will crash in a designated area is debatable.
Either have air shows or don’t. The risk won’t be removed totally.
These days you are lucky to get a full display by the Reds due to airliner traffic.
The Battle of Britain film is a particularly tedious and boring film. Yes we all love the aviation but having to sit through two hours of tedious scripts and poor acting does not a good film make.
My aviation three would be 6 o’clock high, Angels one five and dark blue world.
Totally random idea but could that panel be from a refueling taker? Those red panels remind me of the alignment panels on the underside of the aircraft.
Attended my first ever Old Warden show on Sunday. Won’t be the last, particularly if the Fly Navy theme is continued.
An excellent day, good selection of aircraft all fitting into the theme, lovely atmosphere and surroundings. and last but not least very good traffic management.
Excellent display. Entertaining, professional and safe.
I saw the adverts as being a way to promote our effort during the war,
a kind of positive propaganda if you like.
BTW There are three more piles of mags in The Needle Makers Antique market in Lewes, East Sussex if interested.
On the subject of old magazines and books I was given a large format wartime magazine with a blue cover and the RAF crest.
Inside it is very similar to Aeroplane, lots of adverts and sepia pictures of RAF aircraft.
Seems it was produced to raise funds because inside the front cover are stamps, as if you had to buy so many stamps and affix them
to the magazine for some reason.
I’ll dig it out the loft if interested.
If it’s rare would be happy to donate it to a museum but I suspect it was mass produced.
