Very true Ian, but the problem designing an aircraft like this is that it becomes too critical on its flight levels. If it can’t get its optimum level it doesn’t become that economical compared to other types.

The 744 max alt is 45100 feet. I have had the 744 at FL374 doing .87 no problems at all, and no, it’s not on full power. The thing with the 400 is that there is little fuel penelty when you keep the speed up.

    Skylinerworld,

Not wishing to get on at you, but couldn’t you post this in the general forum section. There is too much rubbish posted on this excellent web site. I feel that there are too many non interesting posts on the commercial aviation web site.
There are a lot of guys here with a wealth of knowledge such as WYSIWYG, moondance, Whiskey Delta and spotty M driver who contribute excellent knowledge to relevant posts from guys who want to discuss and learn new information, let’s keep it this way.

The 744 I fly cruises at FL290 to 410. The plane climbs as the fuel is burned. Not many pilots like going above 400 due to the radiation. And the 744 is the quickest pax jet in the sky at the moment.

Well, in a twin engine aircraft…if an engine fails it’s classed as an emergency and it must proceed to the nearest suitable airfield, where as a four engine aircraft does not need to divert. As long as it meets the required fuel, safety and clearance requirements it can proceed to the destination.

In other words, I like 4 engines..oh, and it has 195 mins of fire protection.:D

If those factors were equal I would personally go for the 744. No particular reason why though.

Couldn’t have put it better myself. WD.

Quality of life is what it’s all about.

Ian, I had the same choice as you, I made mine and have never looked back.

    Give me a ring mate.
