In deed, Tmor’s intervention was very helpful because i read a greek aviation blog with title “1 Rafale costs 142 mln euros!”

I often seen 1 Rafale + weapons + support is around 142 mln but it was in dollars at that time 😮

Still the increase in price is consistent, probably following the more advanced additions in the F3. But, i am afraid it will make loose competitiveness against the Typhoon.

In 2009, we heard about many new sub system in devellopement for the Rafale, obviously, it has a cost.
About the competitivity with the Typhoon, I guess we can say that the Rafale even more expensive has a very good reason to be :diablo:

There seems to be more and more reports from domestic politicians thinking a deal with France will be too expensive for Brazil. Is it likely that Lula listens to MP’s and such?

The problem is that it’s the people with the power in hands that have the better point of view of strategic situation.
Why do you think somebody else in charge would made another choice ?

We can all congratulate Tmor to spend so much time trying to understand exactly what are those figures because it’s not as simple as it looks like.

But from the little I understood, I fear that we are now quite away from the €55 millions fly away price ….

And, to be honest, I would suspect Dassault’s own claims on the 29,000 jobs. Maybe it’s true, but it must be independently verified. If I have to choose among: a) military officials; b) Politician (minister of Defense); c) Seller. I would go with “a”.

So, for commercials matters, you rely on military officials ?

At the beginning, it was at least a mix of technical and political, now it seems to be just political, in a very negative sense of the word. What a shame, isn’t?

As soon as you have politics involved, the technical part is doomed to disappear after a while.

The six Raptors were undefeated, against all opponents. 27th FS CO Lt Col Lansing Pilch was quoted by the Virginian as saying that: “In every test we did, the Raptors just blew the competition out of the water.”

I believe the Rafales did well, though, and impressed the F-22 pilots.

It’s totally consistent with 6 WVR fights ending with a 1-0 in favor of the F-22.

In what appears to be yet another incredibly compressed development timeline, pictures emerged today of a prototype “20 ton” class helicopter with a different granularity and range of colors on the picture than other objects in the background.

my, my, what a different attitude you froggy fanboys take when the results dont suit your dream

Most french posters don’t have real faith withi nformation from A&C

Thanks god, the 7-1 to Typhoon hasn’t been announced by that source 😀

Personally, I doubt it. If indeed the F-35 is to be axed, the last option would be long hated french made airframes. A more likely choice would be a naval version of either the Gripen or the Typhoon.

Come on, go ahead, why buying a Rafale when you have plane as expensive with less range, less payload …. :diablo:

Do I need to remind you that Rafale lost against Greek F-16? When I raised this I was told “but that was an old version of the Rafale”. Point is, the current Gripen is “a very old version” of Gripen and not relevant. So I ask again how can you say that Rafale will be better than a future Gripen NGapart from the TWR, payload, and a few other things?

Perhaps because the Rafale will get several nice and shinny upgrades too in a close future.

Why does it matter that it’s at an early stage today if it will be superior at delivery 2014?

I dunno, but it has been said since the Korean competition that having an AESA first is always better even without any explanation to support that statement.

I am a bit surprised that the French don’t do better on offsets

Because you believe what was written inside that article ?

We have been talking of JF-17 as a “mini-Mirage 2000”, well seems like this going to happen. Here’s a post I found on another site.

I corrected your statement, hope you don’t mind. 😀

First thing that is new to me:

The previous report said that there had been no BVR game between Raptor and Rafale during the ATLC, and this article said that there had been BVR games between the two fighters during the exercise.

Or perhaps the pilto wasn’t allowed to talk about it at that moment

Second thing that is new to me:
The previous French declaration said that Rafale had only been locked by Rafale once during the six dogfights. This article said that Raptor had killed Rafale twice at least during the dogfights without much difficulty.

So, during the dogfight session, only one kill for F-22, during the BVR session, they got close enough to finish with cannon.
It’s all about how you translate “enroulé” in english 😉

Fourth thing that I am awared of:

I see no provement of the anti-stealth capability of IRSTs declared by some manufacturers before during this exercise.

With the radar ON, sure, they couldn’t even use it long enough 🙂

Fifth thing that is amazing to me:
Such article is published by a French magazine, not by a American or British one…….:D

    Why is that ?

For years, Air et Cosmos journalists are banned from Dassault press conference and the magazine does not receive advertising from the firm. So i don’t know if this report about Rafale and F22 is a true story written by independant journalists or something published by a spiteful magazine with an agenda.

    http://gklein.blog.lemonde.fr/2006/05/25/2006_05_dassault_face_a/

And i would like to know their sources…;)

With the exception of the Rafales using their radars, which means a quick death by Raptors, what surprise you inside that report ? There is nothing new.

no, not really. Gripen has datalinked sensors in a much broader scale. NG sensors suit is alot bigger than C/D as well.

    Could you elaborate please ?

They were quite displeased with what?? The MIRAGE having better turn rates than the Hornet in high altitude ? probably yes . The Hornet was designed to be a strike aircraft, first and foremost .The absence of any serious air-to-air threat in the region on one hand and the US protection on the other ,convinced the Kuwaitis that Hornet would be the right choice as it mainly carried out A2G missions ,a combat proven ,mature strike fighter ,ready to go anywhere with an incredible range of A2G stores, and in A2G , the Hornet is massively superior to Mirage 2000

There were displease with the result of Qatar/Koweit excercices.

Can you show me where I said something like that ???

Damn, really soooooorry for the misunderstanding, but so many people have that sentence in the mouth … for so much time 🙂

So, what had you in mind ? What will happen in 2015 ?
