Conclusion: the programme is now on the track and the only issues could come from a political decision “Deus ex machina”.

That’s the main problem I think, and the question from Jacko.

The French basically claim Rafale won the “real” export competition each time it looses out

    Only Korea

Meanwhile, Jacko/John Lake spoke about the outstanding performance of the Typhoon in Singapore.

The Super Hornet is a excellent Striker no doubt! Yet, it will become obsolete as soon as the F-35 enters widespread service……….;)

Ok, so the SH shouldn’t be obsolete before years and years … :dev2:

    – The Tiger’s M781 gun is a much newer and more capable design than the Apache’s M230 chaingun. Muzzle velocity is 29% higher (1025 m/s vs. 792 m/s), leading to greater destructive power and higher accuracy. Rate of fire is 20% higher (750 rpm vs. 625 rpm), also improving the accuracy of each salvo.

Any news about the german project to replace that canon with a revolutionnary one ?

I read about it in a RAIDS magazine IIRC.

Spliting the MMRCA to LCA and MKI and putting an emphaze on MCA ?

The LCA is very far from being ready => impossible.

Pushing the MCA ? After the difficulties with the LCA ? Seems hard to achieve that easily.

The fact that Gripen went to Austria too sure of himself doesn´t compromise that it was an open competition, the Eurofighter beat off four competing offers, Dassault, Lock Mart, Gripen and a second hand Viper deal proposed by Holland and Belgium.
And about bribes, double standards, etc, etc, etc, american firms bribed Japanese Ministers, Dutch Princes, Australian political members, etc, etc, the French bribed in almost every competition that they´ve entered, and the same aplies to the Russian´s…
    It´s the arm´s industry, it´s not a boy scout´s contest.

So, all CEO from LM, Bae and Dassault are in jail now ? 😀

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I often read that the “supercruise” is quite new because former engines would have a hard time to sustain these conditions for a long time.

How long is that time is another question.

The selection of the F-15 over Rafale/Typhoon by South Korea & Singapore was probably as much political as they were military/technical.

Let’s say to be diplomat that the Korean selection was a pure technical evaluation followed by a pure political decision. 😉

Unfortunately, as the Mirage-2000 assembly line was discontinued by France, the MRCA proposal was mooted.

The problem is that it would have been foolish for Dassault to paid a fortune to maintain that line open and empty + spending another huge sum of money to upgrade the mirage to made a rafale-like.

The IAF wanted the mirage, the Indian governement was warned by Dassault, but nothing came, so, the line has been close.

Super Hornet Block II+/Rafale F3, license built in India, with 50% offsets, full technology transfer, radar codes and the right to integrate competitors’ weapons and systems, all probably for an impossibly low price…

Am I the only person who thinks the Indians are dreaming?

No, don’t worry, you’re not alone.

Of course it’s impossible to reach every request, and I think that it will be clearly said in few months.
But, we can think that Mig or Boeing/LM who enjoy a very strong support from their respective administration are in a better position than EADS or Dassault.

    Perhaps just a little problem.

The SH purchase has been seen as an expensive one, the Eagle is even more expensive.

There are many, many, who wish and want and pray for the F-35 to fail.
But, it isn’t going to happen.

It’s all about what lies behind you “fail”
Comercial failure ? No way in hell
Technical one ? The program has still some way before reaching its maturity

There is entirely too much experience, money, technology, and necessity involved here for it to fail.

    See above.

It won’t happen. Lockheed has conceived, for the first time literally, the airplane that can “do it all.”

Yes, and we all remember your “JAck of all trade, master of none” about the Rafale 😀

A deep-strike stealth airplane for Israel……and an interceptor for the Netherlands

Funny to quote two countries that either hasn’t shown a real interest about the F-35, and the second one that is more and more reluctant with it.

I mean to remember that the C01 was supposed to be used for trials with the M88-3. I know that this engine haven’t been flown aboard any Rafale.

    Wow, that’s new to me.
Since the defeat in Korea, I knew that the project was still on his way, but a sluggish one, and never heard any potential test on a RAfale.

There is a value of 4.5 billions of Euros expected (at best) for the military part only.

As it has been said, The Rafale is still in the pipes without any confirmation of any kind.
More interesting are the two last points.
Perhaps a new customer for the Leclerc ? Nothing has been said until now.
Special forces: what can I add ?
