The RB199 isn’t a good performer in high altitude, perhaps the EF200 isn’t one at low altitude.

The MICA, although it doesn’t have quite the range of the AIM-120 is still a nice step up from the Super 530

The MICA is given for more than more than 80km in the best situation, I doubt that the gap with the AMRAAM is that important.

Another important point, can the F4 radar update datas to the AIM-120 ?
For now, the answer is NO.
If the RC400 can do that (I can’t find the info), the upgrade F1 would have a very good advantage.
Of course, you can repley that this particular upgrade use some of the very best of the component available on the market …

So, when the French cut numbers in order to improve the quality of each remaining aircraft it is a good move… but when the US does the same thing, it shows that the entire program is in trouble… I see!!!

We don’t know if the final buy of Rafale will be lowered or not πŸ™‚
BTW can’t you see a difference between the french AF which has a prety low budget and the USAF ?

    Just strong claims.
By the way that war ended 1988 already. Too early for a maybe Mirage 4000.

the 4000 has been develloped in parralel with the mirage 2000. First fly in 1978 πŸ˜‰

What was the intention of France to support Iraq against Iran?!

France was supporting Iraq like all others western countries.

    About mirage 4000 vs Tomcat.
The mirage 4000 was more unstable than the mirage 2000 so no doubt that in dogfight, a mirage would have the upper hand in many situation.
    In BVR, it’s up to
    – the radar that Thomson-CSF (now Thales) would hav develloped for that plane.
    – the missile. Unless a real success in export market, hard to believe a brand new missile for him.

I see that, but I do not agree, every wishfull thinking aside.
The most “advanced” neighbour Brasil has to face in the forseeable future maybe Peru in the distant west of Amazonia. I do not exspect, that the M2000 will not be delivered with an upgrade to field modern BVR weapons.

The brazilian Mirage are suppose to come with a RDM block 5 or something like that.
I have been totally unable to find datas about that radar.

the introduction of the M2000 will be very slow, three aircraft per year!

Strange, since all the mirage have to be only slightly upgrade.
Have you got a link for that ?

Swedens defence strategy of using the “vΓ€gbassystem” (road-bases) requires the gripen to make an equvilant landing to a aircraft-carrier landing. I dont think that the possibel modofications would be that substantial. I think a stronger empanage and a tailhook would be enough. Maybe a bit higher landing gear but i dont think it is necesary.

    /Zippo

Landing on a road is something, landing on a carrier is another thing.
Sorry but a grippen cannot do that.

Bush put an end to the 2002 coup during a closed-door meeting with a Venezuelan delegation. Bush demanded that Chavez be immediately returned to power. The Venezuelans were stunned, but willingly complied.

Truth be known, Bush had been completely surprised by the 2002 coup.

    Never heard about that.

    Any links ?

In a worst case scenario, Chavez would use his newly purchased defense hardware to support the FARC narco-terrorists in Colombia.

And 48 hours after that, few attacks from the USa will take care of these Flanker.

    Any new ideas ?

In fact Eurofighter competed against different aircraft in Greece and the greek selected Eurofighter.

The problem is that nobody in France never heard that that “competition” and according to Dassault and Lockheed, Greece didn’t asked inforamtions about RAfale or F-16.
The question is “Which planes competed at that time ?”

However they didn’t sign the contract as they wanted to pay not before the olympic games and some social programs in 2004.

    Just a joke.
    1) Greece economy isn’t in his best shape
    2) even for a Typhoon, the cost was huge.

That what happend to Eurofighter in Singapour was the same as that what happened in Southkorea. He didn’t say the Rafale is a bad plane.

No, he said that it was the same thing but the conclusion is that the Typhoon is better than the rafale. That’s why I asked further explanations.

However after Typhoon was selected and the contracts were signed Dassault suddenly made an offer for 18 Rafale for 1,4 billion €.

I heard something like that but since the deal was nearly signed, that wasn’t something really serious I think.

Austria originally intended to buy Tranche 1, but as they were not willed to pay before 2006 and because of the political debates causing delays it was finally to decided to buy Tranche 2 aircraft for the same price.

Pehaps, I’m not really up to date about that contract.
On the other hand, T2 instead of T1 for the same price ?
When I think that everybody said that it’s Dassault who is deseperated to sell his stuff πŸ˜€

    Austria didn’t shortlist it

Of course, Dasasult didn’t proposed the RAfale πŸ˜‰

    Greece selected Typhoon.

Greece decided to buy the Typhoon. quite different.

Many people regard Tornado F3 as the best BVR bomber destroyer of its era.

No doubt about that according to me.

The Jaguar was a great aircraft, thanks to the contribution of both partners. Typhoon’s better than Rafale. Mirage 2000C is a great aircraft, but is outclassed by F-16, F/A-18, etc.

This is as stupid as Fonk during one of his writing dierrea.
    Outclassed by F-18 or F-16 ? 2000 C vs block 50 ?

Like in Bosnia? The RAF Harrier/Jag/TIALD combination scored a 96% DH rate. The AdlA rate was well below 75%.

Always heard that the best score from NATO forces in Bosnia were SEM

Like in Granby/Daquet, where 12 RAF Jaguars flew more sorties than 24 French aircraft, dropping more weapons and scoring more DHs?

With they flew more sorties, what’s the point ?

Any genuinely neutral observer would agree that the F-16 enjoys an edge WVR over the M2K.

When you look at the result of mirage 2000C vs Su-27 from the IAF, it doesn’t sound THAT obvious

There has never been a competition in the NL. No spec has been issued. There is no requirement.

It has been way more fair than the greek joke.

No Dutch pilots have flown the aircraft (except their Chief of Staff), nor the active cockpit.

    How could I say ?
    πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ seems an appropriate answer. πŸ˜‰

EF GmbH have submitted no bid, no price, and no spec.

Hard to believe if you want my opinion.

So was Korea more of a shock to Dassault or to EF?

Korea isn’t the problem. The difference of that Korea give RAfale excellent mark and kick him out and you understand that the Rafale isn’t that good.
Singapore give the Typhoon excellent mark (well, not sure at all) and kick him out and you understand that the typhoon is an amazing plane.

The Singapore MinDef said β€œNo Thanks” – the RSAF said something else entirely.

Just like in Korea with the RAfale, right ?

    Austria didn’t shortlist Rafale.

The mirage 2000 you mean ?

They need Tranche 1 capabilities (A-A only) but are getting T2 standard jets.

Well, I’m not sure that Austria is really happy by the price and several articles said that the governement would like to buy limited T1

    1) There was an evaluation, though nothing like Singapore’s.

Be careful, it’s an obvious lie. In comparison the dutch “selection” has been much more explicit.

2)The bids were based on through life support costs as well as unit procurement cost. Dassault were not cheaper.

Another obvious lie. Dassault said that they haven’t been told by greek officials that a deal was on the way. Dasasult and Lockheed made several bids way more cheaper than Eurofighter groupe.

    4)The competition is still running.

Yes and I hope that it will die quickly.
Greece has much more important thing to do than wasting more money into their AF. same thing for Turkish gov.

Eastern Smile was the name of the RAF deployment of the aircraft to Singapore. I know of at least three articles about the deployment.

    Thanks for the information.
Well, the articles really looks like the same, aren’t they ?

I know who I spoke to, and I’ve talked to the other authors about who they talked to.

And can you explain why the rafale who can do supercruise in France can’t do that in singapore ?
