If that news is indeed correct, I think the F-15 has the better chance. Reason: A wider range of PGMs available, better radar, future upgrades.

More PGM ? Well, as long as the rafale has good one, do you think that it would be that important for the eagle ?

Better radar ? Of course, you have all information needed to make that statement, aren’t you ?
Between an american radar and a french-singaporian radar, from a singaporian point of view, the performances wouldn’t mean all.

    Future upgrade ? For ? The eagle ? When ? where ?

I bet they will go for the Rafale. With recent purchase of modern frigate from the french, it is not possible to buy again from them.

Well, it would be an akward move from our part.

it is my personal view i dont know is there any diiffrent assab.line for both aircraft [mirage/rafale]

    There is two differents line.
Remember that the rafale production had stopped for a full year while the mirage wasn’t.

    About the deal of rafale:

I’ll believe this when I see Rafales in a hot desert paint scheme, but not before. The Saudis bust the bank with all their weapons purchases after the 1990 Gulf thing. Within the kingdom there is massive resistance to spending more money on fancy jets or anything else from the West for that matter. But who knows..

As Indian1973 said, with the actual oil price (and the future seems to be worst), money isn’t a problem.
For the “western things” problem, well, I think that France has definitively the edge in comparison of the americans or British.

Otherwise, from which nation, they could buy planes ?

why you havent seen the length Rafale development history?

    the same than the Raptor.
    So ?

It is surely more than the combined Mirages, rafale, ef, gripen, sukhoi, migs. there is no comparision.

And according to you, the F-16 is a freaking expensive platform like the Japanese F-2 shown us ?
    Yep, buy Rafale instead :p

    cheaper relative to which aircraft?

Get your infos all alone little boy.

About french aircraft they are certainly better than russians but not better than US.

Lots of american posters liked to post that kind of statement over and over on the web.
Since EU might lift the ban on china, mirage or Rafale are suddenly the kings of the sky. 😀

More F-16 for now, Typhoon or Rafale for 2010 or later and F-35 for 2015 and later…

I would say F-16 block 60 for now, and then, in 2015-2020 Rafale + Neuron or F-35 or whatevr.

All things being equal , you can compare 2 radars or two missile with know facts , But a Dog Fight with two aircraft F-16 vs Mirage , Its gets to the same argument , Initally Delta has an advantage , but then as it turns Delta Bleeds and at slow speed F-16 gets the upperhand etc etc.

    Nothing to add.
PErhaps the AF with the best information can gert theirs aircraft in the best position but it’s pretty close.

$50m for french airforce. how much will engine upgradation and AESA development cost for export customer.? F-16E came with engine upgrade, not to mention fully developed AESA, Towed decoys EW, fibre optics etc
Rafale is far more expensive than F-16E with much less sophistication. it will take another 10 years for Rafale to reach that sophistication.

The rafale mk2 proposed to South Korea had all that (better engine, AESA) and was the cheaper aircraft of the competition.
The cost was certainly on part with the F-16E, but the difference would be on the operationnal cost.

You should read a bit more about french aircraft.

prove it Blk60 is as expensive as Rafale.

the rafale F3 bought by the french AF costed slightly more than 50 millions.
that left 25 millions for the infrastructutre.

About the training, let me tell you something.
When the koreans pilots went in Frnce to test the Rafale, they have been allowed to fly with real bombs after few days.

Also too french. Larzac engine is considered outdated. Perhaps this is the first time a russian engine is considered better than a western engine.

Not very hard to achieve. the Larzac is really a non-choice unless that engine enjoy the easyness to usethan the M-53 or M88.
    For a trainer, it’s a real argument.

airframe and engine is the same and so is i think flight characteristics.

As I said, the avionics it totally different and the tactics too.

F-16E isnt cheap but it is not expensive as compared to F-16A in mid seventies. remember $1 today is not equal $1 tommorrow. and here we are talking about 30 year time difference.

    A F-16A block 15 was way less expensive than a mirage 2000 C.
Now the F-16 block 60 is as expensive as a Rafale.

With new Pak F-16s in the horizon it would make sense to upgrade the Mirage with systems that could serve as a model for a possible 120 aircraft deal.

Just like, let’s say, a dozen of second hand mirage 2000-5 ?
