France may be a proud member of the team but their american colleagues are in charge of the program.

For what I understand, the USN can define how it works etc .. but I don’t find anything stating that the EF2000 or Rafale must use 100% MADE IN USA system.

What’s the point of having these big UCAVs? One of the pictures shows a UCAV over an airfield with lots of explosions in the background, but I’d think it would be just as vulnerable as a fighter in those circumstances and be quickly shot down.

Marketing stuff, nothing more, but as someone said, we can easily think that these UCAV will be able to reach HIGH G and for a long time.

    well..

You’re right, the MIDS on the rafale is a bit more advanced than what I thought

Well, there is a difference between this MIDS/link 16 and the Swedish TILDS.
Where the MIDS was designed for as many paticipants as possible, the amount of information that can be shared is pretty limited.

If there is a technological field where France clearly lagged is clearly datalinks.
It’s not ready yet on the rafale (not before 2006 or 2007) and even more remote for mirage 2000 (2008-2009).

So SAAB is a fantastic asset for that project.

Could you please post some pics? are there any visual differences between the two types>?

    Visual differences ?
    I’m not sure.

The OSF (first generation) has been canned since the next generation should be ready one or two years after the planned date of the OSF 1.

So what A2G weapons can the Rafale F2 is CLEARED to use, is it as wide ranging as the F-18E’s selection or even the M2K’s selection,

All the french A2g weapons + all future munitions like the ASSM (the adaptation on the mirage have been canned because of aerodynamical problems)

and is this F2 even in production?

The french AF flew two of them, I supposed they are in production

care to clarify it Dr. Zoiberg 🙂

    Two words: Rafale F2

I don’t see the really big difference with Rafale and Typhoon, similar weights, loads, weapons nonetheless, performance, and costs.

Similar weight but much higher payload for the rafale.
About the cost, in comparison of the “greek choice” of the Typhoon, Dassault said that the french offer was 15% cheaper.

In the future competitions, while countries like Singapore and Greece ALREADY operate F-16s, taking the block60 would be much cheaper than taking the Rafale or Typhoon

    Perhaps:
    1) these AF don’t want to use a single kind of plane.
    2) you underestimated the cost of the block60

When you compare the block60 to Rafale or Typhoon, it already comes with all it’s weapons integrated and such, much like the Super Hornet.

Why are you talking of 2003 eurocanards configuration for a deal which mustn’t be a reality before 4 years ?

As for the Rafale and Typhoon.. some people might like the idea of having less American components in their aircraft, not to mention it being slightly cheaper, slightly more developed especially in A2G, and a whole lot more attractive than what the 4 country consortium is trying to sell..

If you want to speak of A2G, you should compare with the Rafale.
the problem with american components is that you depend of a country who don’t depend on you and which might easily ground your precious fighters.

After all think of it’s opposition.. a Rafale and Typhoon with no A2G capabilities at present

No A2G capabilities for the Rafale ?
    Not since September :diablo:

I would not be too surprised if the Indian Govt forces their Air Force to make some major American purchases like F-16/15/18 along with the M2K-5. There are strong doubts if Dassault will get a blanket 126 order. A high probability exists of the order being split. The reasons would be more political than strategic.

I know that using Mirage 2000 instead of mig-21 or 23 would be a fantastic gain of maintenance cost but I can’t imagine that it would allow you to add a brand new kind of american fighters.

They wouldn’t gave much political weight but would come with lots of technological dependance whereas most of the mirages would be build in india.

I don’t think India should proceed with this deal for 126 jets, I mean they should just stick with the LCA even if it might be around only 1-2 years after this deal.

And let the IAF grounding a large part of the fleet ?

The french AREVA engineers have been greatly impressed by the reverse engineering on their nuclear plant sold several years ago. 🙂

So those seating at Dassualt do not understand this? IAF has simply no choice but to buy Mirages. and if Euro keep rising like this even that will be out of question.

I always heard that most of the 125 fighters would be built in India. No many currency problems about that.

hasn’t be build? lol , and on the test bench, what kind of device is it?

    Aren’t you SAMPAIX on network54 ?

uhmm, ok! 4% lesser comsomption from the 2E3 who was 3% lesser than the 2E2 who was 2% lesser than the 2E1 who never was fitted!

Since the SNECMA speak of only 4% from the M88-2 E1 to E4, I will believe them over your opinion about the Step 2 and 3 which haven’t existed.

Someone would notice the M88-3C, ain’t you PILOTGHT ?

M88-3 can’t have the same trush!

    Of course it can.
If the AF ask that, they will got that.

the dash 3 is on the test bench since 1996 under project name “M88AMV”!

All the sub-system were nearly ready in mid 2003. No news about it.

he was tested, but the progect was frozen and not removed after the korean cowardise bid!

Let the koreans manage the Korean AF as they wish.
How can you test an engine which hasn’t be built ?

actually all rafales ares retrofited with the M88-2E4 , who have reduced consomption and 10% more trush than the earlier 75kN!

Lesser consumption (4%), a bit more reliable, same thrust.

I hope the new SAGEM-SNECMA will allow some funding for that program.
I think the french navy would be glad to gain some safety margin.
