Why, do you think it is in keeping with the aircraft being flown?

There’s a lot more to the aircraft than how they look.

Fantastic day, many thanks to the BBMF for a great end of season spectacle and for my 2 year old daughter’s debut visit.

Can I suggest though an international ban on bone domes in warbirds? To me they just don’t look right.

Please tell me you’re not being serious

    Fluffy.

Are all planes serviceable, and will Smithy be giving us a last hurrah with an individual display like Gp Capt Atah and Clive Rowley before him before he hands the reins over to Dunc? (The brain is a bit fuzzy, and I can’t remember if Al Pinner did the same.)

He might wait another year for that…

PM631 no longer has invasion stripes so it rules the BBMF aircraft out.

It’s a Hurricane, as already said. The small panel you can see just in front of the windscreen is for access to the reserve tank refuel point.

    Which Hurricane? I don’t know.

This weekend is also the mid-season weekend when BBMF does no flying at all, allowing the crews to have some time off and catch up on any rectification on the aircraft.

Hi pagen01, My friend, I have heard all sorts of rumours localy ….. “Its only here prior to its next appearance at the Lowestoft Airshow” ???? …… “the green paint is flaking and here for a touch up” ????? …… “The green paint is the wrong shade and its going to be resprayed completely” ….. ” its only here so the 10 local aviation photographers can post 3000 photos of it everywhere :diablo:”

At least one of those rumours is at least partially correct… 😉

Hardly just a stuffy fuselage, more akin to flying in an oven so I’m led to believe especially in black flying suits.

More to do with letting the air circulate and preventing carbon monoxide build up than keeping the thing cool.

Does anyone know if these two would have been flying yesterday (Sunday 26th) as well, could have sworn I saw them flying over Skipton in close formation.

You would have seen one of these with the MkIX.

I saw their site before, but the pdf only shows displays during April! 🙁

I assume you mean the Excel file you can download not PDF, you can press the tab at the bottom to select a different month.

Any idea if any of the BBMF stuff will be in the air this weekend? I’m up at Tumby Woodside for the weekend and have withdrawal symptoms…My best memory is standing outside the B&B there, cup of coffee in hand at about 7am on a sunny summers day when it flew over me at treetop height. Lovely! Could see the crew waving at me!:D

There are no BBMF aircraft flying this weekend, hope this helps.

If you are Corporal and above posted to Cranners on King Air’s, the RAF put you through them I believe as on Civi reg.

Unfortunately the BBMF of late has tended to keep those leaving the RAF on as Civilians working on the BBMF to retain the “knowledge” hence very very few new people get posted onto the Squadron compared to the past… Fine, but as they get older and retire, with the reduction of new RAF engineers learning as used to happen, they will end up with a skills deficit due to the lost turnover of manning..

Not all of that is strictly true…

I don’t believe any of the King Air postings at Cranwell are service personnel, it’s contracted out to a civilian company.

Also there are no civilian engineers at BBMF. All are service personnel, and of the 25-30 or so only 5 are on a FTRS contract.

Looks to me like it’s from a Lancaster.
