Is there any way the Defiant could have been made in to a worthy fighter during WW2? An aircraft with as much promise as this one couldn’t surely have been a complete failure.

There was an episode of Bergerac once where he was solving a crime in an aviation museum in Jersey.

In the museum there was an Avro 504, SE5a, Tutor, LVG CVI, Gladiator………sound familiar?

We went there on our honeymoon a couple of years ago, it was a great place to visit with a lot of history of the military on the island over the years without being overdone.

How much longer will the Harrier ZH653 continue to be operated by QinetiQ? I saw it flying quite low level this morning close to Boscombe and was wondering if QinetiQ have any need to continue flying it as it is no longer a type used by the RAF.

After the last Harrier took off from HMS Ark Royal for the final time the ships Captain likened this moment to taking the teeth out of a Tiger. 🙁

I sat in the back of this bird in 1993 during my week long work experience placement with the SAOEU when we did engine tests after refitting the recently repaired part.

I was speaking recently to Tony who has a little to do with the collection and he was saying he can’t see any silver lining to the clouds gathering over it. 🙁

At 11.15 today I saw an Apache heading south flying over Shipton Bellinger and due to the blacked out rear cockpit the pilot was obviously night flying training.

….oh I dunno, my Charley/Diana mug is getting a bit tatty, can’t wait for my Willy/Katy mug anytime soon……….

The best thing is during the winter there tends to be less ‘news’, ie the government on holiday, so this will be the focus of the media most days.
At least it’ll make a change from X Factor.

Lynx, Beaver and Chipmunk from Middle Wallop flew over Andover and dropped their load of Poppies over the church at 11:00 Yesterday.
Didn’t have time to get my camera out 🙁

I saw them heading out from Wallop en route, I also saw about 2-3 minutes in front of them a quintet of helecopters of which I could only identify a Lynx.

Wow, fly F-18s and F-16s until 2030? By then the design will be over 60s years old. Do you think our enemies will cancel or cut back there stealth programs also? If we are going to cut costs lets start with pork spending and social welfare programs 1st. We cant afford to give every one on earth free health care. And its this type of thinking in the Clinton era that got us to this spot in the 1st place.

With the US intention to keep the B-52 in service until 2040, a service life of 88 years, does any western airforce ever need to develop new aircraft? I’m pretty sure the Tonka could go for another 25 years with suitable system mods, Tornado GR10 anyone?

Is there no way the Aviation Collection at Boscombe Down can help raise funds and keep an aircraft on site?
