she would still make a good platform imho – new electronics suite, redesigned main gear? what sort of engines would be available now? american ones?

Always the same, I checked Wiki about 5 minutes after my last post and it says that in 1981 Maggie Thatcher looked into resurrecting the TSR-2 with modern technology but it wasn’t taken any further.

I’m sure the TSR-2 would have looked amazing in desert pink during GW1! 😀

The reality is we were bankrupt at the time. That is the main reason so many promising projects were cancelled.

How long after cancellation in 1965 would it to have been possible to restart the TSR2 project before it became outdated?

When the Russians altered the cockpit arrangement of the Hind A and created the Hind D did the Brits never think of doing something similar with the Puma?

I would try and photo-shop an Apache cockpit onto a Puma fuselage but, I don’t have photo-shop!

I live on Salisbury Plain, about 4 miles from Boscombe Down. With all the test flying that has been done from BD, and military presence through the ages I expect that there has been several aviation firsts/milestones nearby.

To my shame I don’t actually know for certain! 😮

Scrap sadly would be my guess too, when mild steel hit £240 a tonne someone tried to take the prob and hub out of my front garden one night.Luckily it weighing a hell of a lot they only managed to get it off its mount, injuring themself/selves in the process judging by the blood left on the wall.

Ha ha, serves them right! :diablo:

My eventual choice was an 04 plate Skoda Fabia 1.9TDi, in 10 days I’ve done several hundred miles with absolutely no problems at all, and I’ve been averaging about 55mpg.

The Royal Air Force (RAF) is the United Kingdom’s air force, the oldest independent air force in the world.[2] Formed on 1 April 1918,[3] the RAF has taken a significant role in British military history ever since, playing a large part in World War II and in more recent conflicts. The RAF operates almost 1,100 aircraft and, as of 31 March 2008, had a projected trained strength of 41,440 regular personnel.[4]The majority of the RAF’s aircraft and personnel are based in the UK with many others serving on operations (principally Iraq, Afghanistan, Middle East, Balkans, and South Atlantic) or at long-established overseas bases (notably the Falkland Islands, Qatar, Germany, Cyprus, and Gibraltar).

Borrowed from Wiki but it what I was going to say anyway!

At 14.20 today one of Boscombe Downs new Hips flew high over Shipton Bellinger, it flew back much lower about 30 minutes later but I wasn’t able to grab camera before it had disappeared behind houses.

    An aircraft that can hover!

I don’t think you can get too much wackier than an aircraft that can hover!
