Thanx Anna and Mike….it is well worth a visit….possibly a good venue for a forum meet…I only live around the corner so you are always welcome a cup of tea!
Me too (how are you Rocketeer?).
Unfortunately I don’t think my wife would be too keen on having any more aviation lovers in our house so I can’t offer the same hand of friendship!
Just seen a really noisy white helicopter fly over Frome heading north…could have sworn it was Russian !!!
Was it painted red, white and blue a la ETPS?
The Victor was undoubtedly the most complex of the V-Bombers and – at least in technical terms – the best performer. However there’s no doubt that the Vulcan was by far the most successful of the designs and certainly the most versatile. As for the Sperrin, well, let’s no got there!
What name would have been given to the Sperrin if it had of entered service as surely it would have been the fourth ‘v’ bomber?
Busy around Boscombe.
I’ve just been out for a walk and between 15.30 and 16.00 I saw 5 aircraft flying around Boscombe Down; one of the two Hips doing high circuits, an Andover, a Beagle Basset all from ETPS, an AAC Gazelle and a pair of Chinooks flying line astern heading east.
Which museums have complete aircraft on display?
What about asking Sabine Schmitz back? She’s been on several times in the past and I think would be good for Anglo-German relations.

As I think it could be said the 60s and into the 70s was when the cold war was really getting going, if the Russians were to ‘somehow’ have come into possession of the TSR-2 plans it wouldn’t have taken long for them to have them built!
Because they used Roman up to (IIRC) 1947, marks after that having the by then less unwieldy (more wieldy? ) Arabic system. Most people were / are comfortable with the lower numbers either way, getting into the teens was getting problematic. (A regular forum Typo is 1X for IX or 11 rather than II (2) – mixing two incompatible systems.)
Spitfires in service in the period such as the PR.XIX Spitfire were XIX prior to the change, 19 after.
Not that I know anything about Spitfires. 😉
Cheers!
Why were some models of the Spitfire given a designation in Roman numerals but others in numbers?
It should be noted also that had the destruction of the TSR2 project been as thourgh/vindictive as many would like you to believe – then there certainly wouldn’t be two of the prototypes sitting in museums (Duxford & Cosford), or major sections such as the cockpit at Brooklands still with us…………..
I have often thought the same, why can I go and look at 2 (and a bit) examples of an aviation project that had all examples thoroughly destroyed by the government of the day?
When you do a restoration but for static display only what happens with the engines both jet and piston? Do you use a fully working model, one that used to work but hasn’t been used for some time or an accurate remake?
airliners.net is always a good place to start! 😎
Which engine was the best choice for the Phantom, the US J-79 or the RAF Spey?
Does anybody have (if it exists) an FSX download of a TSR-2 they could link to on here?
