Time Team has certainly conducted a dig on two American aircraft that collided over the UK. The dig was initially broadcast a couple of years ago (if memory serves correctly) and re-run earlier this year.
Apologies for not remembering the type of aircraft (someone will know), other than the fact that they were twin-engined and cockpit visibility was (very) restricted by the wings and engines.
The crews’ bodies were recovered at the time of the accident so in this instance the war grave aspect did not come into the equation.

They were two Douglas A26 Invaders and the episode was shown on 16 January 2005.

Escargot too, perhaps?😀
I recall reading that a paper French design (The “Super Caravelle”?) and the English design looked very similar…that true?
And while we’re on the topic…how true are the “Russian rip-off” rumors?
Concordes first flight was 3 months after the Tu144’s and it entered service 26 days after the Tupolev did. Clearly a case of BAC/Aerospatiale ripping off the Russians!
I think an aircraft wreck is only classed as a war grave if it crashes at sea.
Should be a Comet of course, but then I am biased! It did kick off a revolution, something the (beautiful) Concorde didn’t quite manage…
Seconded!
What was the last all British jet fighter to serve with the RAF and what aircraft currently flying with the RAF are all British?
Is there many left?
I still haven’t seen either of the two Hips the ETPS now have at Boscombe despite living only 4 miles away!

I’ve always thought they looked their best painted pink!
What is the most modern/newest aircraft in TFC?
As Moggie said yesterday I think Memphis Belle could count in both the best and the worst categories. For pure entertainment it is not a bad film but for historical accuracy it is complete pants!
I think the only thing that needed to be done to fix this is to call the bomber something other than Memphis Belle.

Which was the last Vulcan to stop flying leaving XH588 as the last flying example?
Harvard KF183 is currently (still) being used by the ETPS at Boscombe Down. KF314 which crashed on 22/2/82 and FT375 which has been withdrawn from service were also operated by ETPS.
Fantastic! All I got to do now is put up with my wife moaning about about yet another war film we’ve got….

IF the TSR2 was to enter service today but with a modern electronics/radar fit how would it compare to many current aircraft in the same role?
That’s why myself and Dr Harry Friedman spend the last 30 years researching and 3 years writing a 536 page hardback book – to put the record straight!
Well, you live and learn!
