I am surprised several of our European neighbours didn’t express an interest in the TSR.2 as it was designed solely to lay waste to whatever its designated target was. In the late 60s, 70s and through the 80s I would have thought an aircraft as advanced as this was in its day would have been exactly what the Russians wouldn’t wanted to have seen coming over their borders!
Newcastle-Gateshead?
I can’t see it making that much difference, you’re still going to need body armour to feel safe in there!
Yes I have been there, plenty of times!

Was there ever any serious overseas interest in the TSR2 either before it was scrapped or after?
I know, I know, bump!

He was also the cousin of footballer Osvaldo (Ossie) Ardiles who was playing for Tottenham Hotspur in 1982.
How did people react to Ossie when he played during and after the Falklands War?
I had a quick look for info regarding number of P40 kills and the general reasons for the apparent unpopularity of this aircraft amongst some, this site seems to answer some questions

at Legends a few years ago, Spits taxied up after their display and we were next to the enclosure by the TFC tent – little man on my shoulders so he can see, usual standard display, superb – my nipper says “You can teach, monkies to fly better than that” hence the footer below
I love telling that story…..:diablo:
I’m determined that miniWP840s first word will be plane and it won’t be long after that before he’ll be saying various expressions along the lines of this and other gems from BoB, Dambusters, Memphis Belle, Top Gun and possibly Tora Tora Tora and Pearl Harbour.
Unfortunatley it appears that until we see an accident happen due to this completley irresponsible behaviour I dont think ‘they’ will get the message!
The only time ‘they’ will get the message is when the aircraft ‘they’ lasered crashes and kills members of their family.
But then it is only them and a couple of their mates who’ll learn. 😡
Like I said it was heard on the grapevine so I myself had doubts too, although it sounded quite feasible I didn’t think we’d imported any ex-Iraqi aircraft after GW2.
ZB697 Mi-17 Mk.1V 103M02 Ex BulAF 402
ZB698 Mi-17 Mk.1V 103M03 Ex BulAF 403The more observant anoraks amongst you will no doubt have noted that these allocated serials compromise actually serials carried by a couple of Chukar D2 target drones written off in April 1981…
I have been hearing on the grapevine (friend whose friend knows a Boscombe engineer) that these are actually ex Iraqi Hips not ex BulAF.
Just a few nit-picks….. 😮
1. It’s a Beriev Be-40 or A-42, not Be-42 (from WP840s post)
2. The engines are not on top of the wing – but on sponsons behind the wing.
3. The exhausts are nowhere near the wing…..
Ken
PS – This month’s AFM announces that the Russian Navy is to take delivery of four Beriev A-42s – I hope its true !!!!
😮 Don’t you just hate being wrong…? :p
One of my all time favourite aircraft, the Beriev 42 Albatros
My Missus seems to be of the belief that when we produce a miniWP840 it is never going to have anything to do with anything military at all.
Ha ha.
