Thanks to all who replied – I especially enjoyed the grammar discourse!

Regarding the photo it’s actually an image I downloaded from a website and it’s now my wallpaper – and before you ask I don’t remember which one although it was probably a site devoted to Lancs as I just love them!

Catch 22, deals very well with the terror of flying and the flak the crews encountered. Yossarian screaming that they were trying to kill him whilst his pilot flew on is very disturbing.
I find Middlebrooks books very well researched and informative but overall I prefer the accounts written by former crew. You can’t really write it unless you really lived it!!!!!

Thanks to all who have helped. I have been truly amazed at your willingness to assist in this chase. Until I posted this thread I had no clue what to do with the scant info I had yet now I know what time he took off!! Just amazing!!

    Cheers

Thanks, that would be great! I’ve tried all manner of searches and cannot find anything that would give me any further details of his mission etc.

He was an air gunner with 619 sqn and he was lost on 21/4/44.

Any further help all greatly appreciated

Many thanks to all who have taken the trouble to view and reply.

the details are as follows: Robert Thompson, born Coventry. His mother was called Leah. I’m afraid I don not yet know how his surname was spelt and am just assuming it is how I have spelt it.

Thanks again for all your help, it is greatly appreciated[COLOR=firebrick]
