By the way, for the Russian, the Moskit is an old stuff. They deployed the Yakhont on the first brand new 20380 Stereguschyy vessels and are starting a modernization program to replace the two-Moskit pack for a three-Yakhont pack on the Sovremennys.
So they will have up to twelve Yakhont, which are in fact lighter, more modern and slightly faster. The issue should be the deadly Yakhont, not the old but still dangerous Moskit.
Estimated kh-41 deployed in the Russian Navy revisited:
12 Sovremenny * 8 Kh-41 = 96
23 Tarantul * 4 Kh-41 = 92 **
2 Bora * 8 Kh-41 = 8
Total estimated = 196
** That numbers were computed assuming that all Tarantul are loaded with the Moskit. There is a possibility that some Russian Navy Tarantuls are loaded with subsonic Uran missiles like standard “export Tarantul”. If just half Russian Navy Tarantul fleet is armed with Moskits, then the number of deployed Kh-41 drops to 150
Conclusion. The number of deployed Kh-41 ranges from 150 to 196.
Respect to Kh-65 deployed, the answer is “No one”. The standard conventional Russian ALCM is the Kh-555. Kh-65 are shorter range ALCM just for export.
ok uaz, I will recompute.
Number of Kh-41 deployed = Number of Sovremenny destroyers deployed * Number of Kh-41 loaded in a Sovremenny
That’s 12*8 = 96
It is homework for a child.
Kh-41 aka Moskit have been deployed during the eighties in Sovremenny class destroyer. Kh-65s are cruise missiles for exportation (therefore with a short range near 300 km). The Russian conventional cruise missile is the Kh-555, that’s a Kh-55 (aka AS-15 Kent) with a conventional warhead. Both will be soon replaced/complemented by the Kh-101 (conventional) and Kh-102 (nuclear).
Gentlemen, if you see and read Pavel’s blog, you should notice that some blogers (provably the Russian ones) corrected Pavel assertions several times. I.e. “Russian” was much more accurate than Pavel on the deployment rate of Topol-M and the retirement rate of Topol. He also anounced the imminent modernization of the Backfires fleet (ignored by Pavel).
I consider Pavel’s blog as fairly reliable but lastly he seems interested in painting a darker picture of the reality rather than been accurate. Some blogers linked articles denying Pavel predictions. The problem is that most of them are written in Russian.
I wasn’t saying the SS-N-20 sucked, just that that video was of one. As for the D-5 there’s that infamous photo of one that looks like it’s flying in circles (though when I finally saw a video of it it was more end-over-end).
That’s look like a really “manoeuvrable missile”:D
According rather old simulations (for year 2005) including massive counter-value strikes (bombing cities) in both sides, Russia will lose up to 80 million lives (57% population) and US up to 140 million lives (47% lives). I don’t know haw reliable are these numbers but the question that arises is:
-How to declare the “winner” in such war? In % wins US but in lives win Russia. It is obvious that no one wins and better don’t try “experimentation for validating the mathematical model”. I will try to re-find and link the article.
Please let us keep discussing the toys rather than discussing “who wins”. MAD is still in place.
The Giant missile is really Giant.
Nikolai Sokov comments on the Sineva and the RS-24
Definitively on hurry

I don’t know how reliable is this source. Much speculative information. Mass range from 47 tn to 53 tn and throw weight from 1.2 tn (6 MIRV ?) to 2 tn (10 MIRV ?).
According to official claims the RS-24 must be fully classified as a new system according START I coding. So, although it seems identical to the Topol-M, it has some differences, probably in the fuel type and/or some minor differences in the stages dimensions. Nevertheless, as takes a lot of things from the Topol-M, its throw weight hardly will exceed the 1.5 ton threshold. The most likely explanation is “It is just a Topol-M on steroids”
Yes. Venezuela would lose. I think we all know why.
Sure. Just after the Su-30 whiped out the whole Columbian air force in a few hours, Mr Chavez will surrender.:p
Well, they are talking also about dumping the dollar as main currency for National reserves. Remember both Brazil and Argentina kicked the IMF ass in simultaneous.
I’m afraid Mr Bush may also found a new “evil axis” on this.
