Is that A, B, C or average and is it REC Flyaway, Weapons system, etc?

According the article 3.48 bln $ is for all variants (10 A, 16 B, 4 C). In other words average price. Further down the article says total value is 3.9 bln $. So the former number which translates into an average 112 mln $ per copy appears to be fly-away. With additional money for other stuff (support equipment…).

It would also be unusual to redesignate the aircraft serial if the aircraft is already in production. That’s the reason why Germany received AS and Austria GS, because they were built as such and reassigned to different customers. The a/c designations are subsequently retained.

I somewhat view the MMRCA as a temporary replacement for the declining numbers of MiG-21s and as a mid term replacement for the Jaguar, MiG-27, MiG-29 and Mirage 2000, with the Tejas really replacing the MiG-21 once the aircraft is available in numbers. PAK FA replace the Su-30MKI in the mid term, there will be an overlapping phase as we can see it with the F-15C and F-22 in the USAF, though the reduction in numbers here forces the US to keep the F-15 going for a while now.

IIRC the Rafales were evaluated in October 2009 in India, they were actually the third to bring their aircraft to India for the evaluation. (LM and Boeing being the first, followed by MiG, Eurofighter and Saab).

Well who is surprised by that. Was to be expected given the countless rumours we have seen over the past month. Thought the passage:

Isn’t true as the F/A-18E/F has demonstrated an operational AESA as well.

With EOTS and EODAS it does not need any camera pod or jamming for that matter.

So EOTS and EODAS recording everything they “see” and relay it back as well to ground stations? How many frequency bands is the AN/APG-81 going to jam without a broad band jammer?

no problem about that. Wasn’t meant to be a duel anyway, just some counter balancing of marketing ploy and the lack of arguments and avoidance of the points I put forward shows that there is no need to continue this.;)

and that is incorrect as well, because if the F-35 wants to perform recce missions with cameras or offensive jamming role it needs pods as well (recce pod, NGJ…). In other words such a claim is simply incorrect for ANY aircraft.
