+1 with ww here (exercise scores vs legacy & Rafales), though one has to keep in mind that those “enemies” where restricted to use tactics of an anticipated enemy. Those kill ratios won’t necessarily work out in a true shooting war as not everything would work as advertised in the paper brochures. Missiles missing the target due evasive manoeuvres plus counter measures and equipment which can’t be simulated if you haven’t the exact technology to do so.
-1 wrt everyone else being even more disadvantaged vs. the F-22 without AWACS etc. If the F-22 can’t be detected at any reasonable range even by AWACS etc. the loose of such would hurt an F-22 more than the other aircraft!

You must check the F-16’s velocities in the 29s-16s training, 150knts, 200knts on most of the F-16s scores, very low speed handling is quite important, is still QUITE important, pilots lose lots LOTS of firing oportunities, hardware and software are no way reliable as you think, and that on a free ECM fighting.
High AoA characteristics are still quite important and relevant for modern air combat

You entirely missed my point here. I spoke about high alpha passes a demonstrated during airshows, this is useless in combat, except for presenting yourself as a target. AoA performance matters when you manoeuvre and change direction, the ability to do so quickly (transitional AoA) or to sustain a certain AoA while turning is important. It doesn’t matter if an aircraft reaches a 50° sustained AoA in trimmed flight conditions, when it is unable to sustain or even briefly achieve it at a glance in a manoeuvring fight.

What was meant by my statement was nothing else than the high alpha pass often demonstrated during airshows. Looks nice wows the crowd, but is entirely useless in combat, particularly in todays WVR environment. The aircraft is flying straight ahead (that was meant with wings level), but nose is pitched up. The aircraft can sustain that alpha in such conditions, it would hardly to so in a turning fighter where the AoA induced drag would slow it down until it stalls. The same alpha could not be sustained in order to turn the aircraft for eternity (well until fuel runs out). Hope that clears up what was meant.
general notes
First and foremost a Rafale must be able to detect/target the F-22 in order to be able to launch anything and it doesn’t matter how great your AAM is, if you can’t target it. The F-22 pilot has the option to position himself remaining unnoticed and fire an AIM-9M, good luck in countering it within the few seconds you have until impact. As fighters aren’t operating alone the a pair of F-22s could have the options of flying widely spaced apart. One stays behind and is active, forwarding radar data to the other going silent and flying ahead approaching the targets from a favourable angle. So even if the Spectra would be aware of the APG-77’s emission from the aircraft far away, it won’t be aware of the silent F-22 approaching and relying on the (offboard) supplied data. Kinetics and high altitudes will shrink effective response times dramatically. It’s not a “will ever work out like that” situation, but one of many possibilities, with a lot of unknown variables no one can definitely claim that this or that works out as the advertisements claim. F.e. the APG-77 being undetectable or unjamable and stuff like that. Sounds nice in theory, but there is no guarantee that it works out against any kind of EW combo fielded or to be fielded.

Yes , my bad again . I always forget that the F-22 doesn ‘t have any ECM or ECCM systems . So , the Raptor can ‘t jam an incoming missile , or anything else for that matter . It is said that the latest incarnation of the APG-77 is capable of jamming , but for no more than 60 seconds or it … burns .
ECCM is not a system per se, but measures taken by the radar to counter counter measures, hence ECCM. The APG-77 certainly offers ECCM capabilities. Jamming might be possible once the EA function is implemented into the APG-77, whenever that is.

Can you provide a single source where a pilot particularly praises the Rafales radar (PESA) in its current form. I’ve seen a couple of favourable comments about the OSF TV part, Spectra, MMI, sensor fusion and flight controls, but never a particularly positive remark about the radar.

But not in sustained flight. Anyway the instantaneous AoA is certainly more useful, not to say that sustained high AoA in wings level flight is pretty much useless in any combat situation.
The ALQ-94 is a brilliant piece of kit and could jam the EM Micas but it can ‘t do much against IR Micas .
It can’t jam anything because it’s just an ESM system, not ECM. And for the record it’s called AN/ALR-94, not “Q”.
The actual Pesa RBE2 is regarded as one of the best if not the best radar in Europe…

fine listing, production is already running, even if it is “just” LRIP in which LM produces more aircraft than other programmes built as full rate. And the 10% might be completed yet and even that is a very small fraction, while production is already running. But it shows how its fans are even defending the non defend able, critical views are dismissed as naysayer opinions. The ever same game here.

That’s not a new approach but something taken by most modern combat aircraft of recent times, see F-22 and Eurofighter blocks, Rafale F-standards etc. The point here is that the F-35 entered production at a time when it was largely untested and that involves a great risk, which ts supportes are obviously playing down. “Simulation technologies are much more advanced etc.” is their excuse and then we see over weighted, not sturdy enough airframes and who knows what kind of problems will arise and more importantly at what point.

those gold plating is used to prevent radar waves from entering the cockpit and reflecting from the pilots helmet, seat, panels etc. which are good sources for reflections. It is better to directly reflect the energy from the canopy than to let the waves pass through and being reflected by stuff in the cockpit. That’s the whole idea behind it.

In other programmes the fatigue testing has been concluded prior series production commenced, so that the lessons learned could be applied for the production models.

The important point here is that this testing was done prior serial production began. We don’t know how the crack is classified on the F-35 airframe, but I would tend to say it is at least minor, but probably significant.
Total contract value is stated to be 3.9 bln $. Production and delivery of the aircraft has been given with 3.48 bln $ in the navytimes article (link further above). I suppose this 0.42 bln $ are the additional expenses for testing and development activities. It doesn’t sound like it’s overall development costs spread over the aircraft. It’s just some additional money for the actual testing.
But those 35-40 mln $ development costs aren’t included in such contracts. Development costs are separately covered in most cases and this is just LRIP.
