I wouldn’t be to sure about the payload capacity growth! The Su-27 started with a payload of 4000 kg, while newer variants carry up to 8000 kg. The JAS 39A had a payload of only 4200 kg, whereas the JAS 39E has a payload of 7200 kg. There are several other examples where newer variants can carry twice the load of the baseline version, the MiG-29 is another good example for this!

I’m still a little bit curious about the British T3A buy. It covers 40 aircraft, though 24 of them are replacement aircraft for the T2 examples diverted to Saudi Arabia. Those aircraft has been ordered and budgeted by the UK, but they are certainly not given away for free. So the UK may have bought them, but resells them to SA. So the 24 T3A replacement aircraft have to be paid for.
Anyway it’s that the the 9.1 bln € T3A contract also includes 2.5 bln € for upgrading T1 & T2 examples. This might explain the additional costs in addition to the development costs for T3A specific equipment.

whether you call it cueing or sighting system doesn’t matter. The difference is between display unit and a simple cueing/sighting device. The DASH and JHMCS should be more or less equal, though I have to admit that I don’t have any specific info on the DASH. Pure laziness as I guess the most basic stuff is available on the net.

The payload of the JAS 39C is given with 5300 kg. 4200 kg is for the A model. Chris Yeo was a test pilot, who by that time was involved in the Eurofighter programme with BAES and who has also flown the Rafale. Probably the only guy to have flown all three european ECDs.

I agree with you. Performance is often restricted on combat aircraft these days even after they are indcuted into service. The Typhoon for example wasn’t cleared for the full 9 g envelope before block 5 (2007) or about 4 years after the first aircraft were delivered to the customers. If the Tejas would ultimately fail to achieve its design load factor after development and testing is complete, then people can complain and state it failed to meet that requirement. But it will certainly take another few years before that’s the case.
But once again as I asked before, are the dimensions of Tejas known yet and is there any good website with more comprehensive information about the programme and the aircraft itself? Preferably in english of course?
Such a simple HMS is sufficient to cue AAMs at HOBS angles. Thought that was your main point.

well if requirements have changed a new target weight should be established as well and performance requirements should be adjusted too.
If I got it right the IAF accepted the performance trades due increased weight, as this is compensated for by superior capabilities?

Here is the Su-30MK2 which is an export version.
I question the engines. Every Su-30 variant can be configured for training with coupled controls. And neither of your sources confirm the AL-41F1S. Btw. the export variant existed before the domestic Su-30M2. And given the designation etc. I tend to believe that this aircraft will be largely identical to the Su-30MK2, perhaps with AL-31F-M1 engines and some stuff found on the Su-27SM, which isn’t available for export. Something I have said from the very beginning when the announcement was made >1 year ago.

What is particularly interesting is that only 88 radars are ordered, while 112 aircraft are to be built as part of T3A.
That the T3A would use the Captor-M is clear since the summer announcement of Captor-E being slated for ~2015.
At the end we have to wait and see how it will work out in the end. No one can accurately predict the costs for a programme which will run for decades. Much can change and such things are difficult to predict.
Su-30MK2 stands for modernised export variant 2. The letter K removed leaves M2 and as KnAAPO only built those Su-30MKK/MK2 variants it would offer some synergy effects. A new variant might be to expensive and it has to be taken into account that the SM upgrade was based on the MKK/MK2 technologies. The stock UB is manufactured by IAPO not KnAAPO.
