no about that. EODAS is a great system, the most interesting one for me on the F-35, though the aircraft features so much. Wrt sensors the F-35 set new standards. The next step might be a conformal AESA array system spread around the airframe to provide full coverage and act as threat detection, warning and jamming system. It could usefully complement an EODAS like system by providing more detailed information about selected IR contacts.
Does anyone here seriously believe that such a missile launch would be located with pin point accuracy at 800 mi? Honestly you must be very naive if you believe that. 800 mi is beyond horizont and may no even be visible until the missile has gained some altitude and is a fair bit away from the launch position. Even with a 0.5 degree accuracy the error margin is to large over such distances! And who says the accuracy will be good enough, especially if the aircraft aren’t flying several miles apart.

Correction Typhoon’s PIRATE is a dual-band system MW (3 – 5) and LW (8 – 11). It actually combines both in one device.
Doesn’t look like the T-50 is fully painted in that image. Perhaps a kind of primer, but not the final paint.

There’s a big difference between the field of view of an IRST, and DAS.
The argument put forward, particularly by posters with an US centric view was that without zoom an IRST won’t achieve any meaningful range. I ever argued that the IR technology today is much more sensitive and that you don’t need to zoom in to achieve long ranges and subsequently don’t necessarily need cueing. And IIRC you were one of many who argued that way as long as no US fighter was fitted with such a system.
It explicitly works WITHOUT a cue.
That’s impossible we all heared IR sensors must be cued and don’t offer any good range otherwise:diablo:;)

are you sure about the T-50-0? I have seen a few sources indicating that the aircraft was moved to Zhukowski on 29 October 2009.
No that figure is just calculated by taking the 74k €/fh figure and multiply it with the number of flight hours (96 in this case). Those journalists have no idea what is included in all these costs and their simplified calculation is not seriously applicable in that context.
Have reread it and the article says “experts say there exist aircraft with such a rate (1 aircraft per 10000 h)”. Overread it to quick, it’s not linked to the Eurofighter as such. My fault
According the following article (in German) the crash could have been caused by bird strike. It’s not officially confirmed and the incident is still being investigated.
It’s said that possibly one or more birds hit the aircraft and may have destroyed its four sensor probes, the FCS was subsequently not able to gather data and became uncontrollable. It’s the first crash of a production Eurofighter, the ~230 aircraft have amassed more than 90000 flight hours. The expected crash rate was 1 aircraft in 10000 fh.
Correct me if I’m wrong Otaku, but doesn’t that article state maximum speed for Su-35 to be 2600 km/h? Wasn’t the official figure till now somewhere around M2.25/2400 km/h?
