I still wonder about the weight claims. The post SWAT figures posted here were stated in a single document only. All other sources indicate higher numbers and one could ask wether the weight figures in that 2007 document were correct at all.

wasn’t there a plan for a smaller aircraft to compliment the Pak-fa? I think by MiG? whatever happened to that

There was a programme called LFS (Light Frontline Aircraft) which was launched in 1994 as the sucessor of the previously canceled LFI. MiG, Sukhoi and Yakolev were competing for the LFS and designs included the S-54 and I-2000 for example. The programme was canceled in 2001 when the PAK FA was started, to concentrate the ressources on a single design. Btw PAK FA is more or less the successor of the MFI programme which was canceled in spring 1997. The Su-47 and MiG MFI were actually prototypes for the MFI.

That’s good news, is it known wether a configuration of 4 x Meteor and 2 x ASRAAM is planned or is it 2 x ASRAAM and 2 x Meteor or 4 x Meteor?

The F-22 is getting MADL, not Link16.

MADL is directional and Ku-band, not L-band so the PAK FA’s L-Band antennas are useless to intercept or jam the datalink.

But MADL would replace the IFDL, so are there no plans to replace the F-22’s JTIDS?

The May 2009 Program update had the Pre-SWAT numbers.

I noticed that the FY2011 F-35A budget docs has some pretty bad addition errors also.

I have just seen one document from a military officer which stated the weights which are claimed to be post weight reduction, any official programme documents and the manufacturers site still state the “older” figures. Makes you wonder why?

What is the new engine in there ? They had mentioned that it was a new engine developed in secret for 5 years ?

It’s reportedly the article 117 aka AL-41F1. This engine is said to be new in contrast to the article 117S aka AL-41F1S found on the Su-35 which is a development of the AL-31F with features of the AL-41F1 being applied.

These data are from Wikipedia/Airwar.ru and are most likely fanboy wishful specs. Earlier sources indicated that the PAK FA’s dimensions fit in between that of the MiG-29 and the Su-27 and from judging the videos which show the aircraft in formation with a Su-27UB it appears that the aircraft is indeed smaller. A length of 19-20 m, height of >4,5 m and wing span of ~14 m appears to be a reasonable asumption. The MTOW has been previously stated between 30t – 35t. That means the empty weight is somewhere in the range between 17t – 20t.
