Good god did you all lost your mind by watching the images of this new bird? I mean the world today is the same as it was yesterday. We all knew that PAK FA will be coming for a couple of years now, we even had a rough idea how this bird will look like since about 2008 and it is actually not really surprising. Except for the exact shape we know as much about this aircraft as we knew before.
Does Europe need a “5th gen” fighter? PAK FA is still a decade away from being operational, except for the airframe I doubt this aircraft will be so much more than a Typhoon or Rafale, let alone F-22/35. Many european nations are involved in the F-35 and some are working on stealthy UCAVs. I don’t see any threat from a PAK FA any time soon, cold war is over get over it.
AIM-9L vs. IRIS-T with helmet mounted sight?
Seriously if they would have had AIM-9X vs. AIM-9X / IRIS-T / ASRAAM and both with helmet mounted sights, this is simply impossible. Because both sides would just have to look at the other to kill him. (or kill him after he killed you)
Certainly no helmet for the Typhoon as it isn’t yet available and likely IRIS-T for the Phoons and AIM-9X for the Cs. We should search for images from this exercise which might unveil what weapons the aircraft were carrying. But even if the 15 used AIM-9X it doesn’t mean they were using them to full extend and it is not as easy as simply look and kill. Most current AAMs lack a LOAL capability and you have still to manoeuver the aircraft into position. The engagement envelope is certainly larger, but not allround and you still need to see the enemy to cue a weapon as well.
Actually, is the RAF using the C7 model AMRAAM, or are they still using the C5? A C7 armed F-15 could offset some of the speed advantage of the Typhoon, if it was armed with the C5.
The RAF uses C5 and C7 is not even integrated into the Typhoon. But those Typhoons were from EdA which just uses the B model afaik. But as said in the previous post and a thousand times before it was declared to be dogfighting.
The exercise was purely WVR according to the article so neither RCS, radar nor AMRAAMs or ECM really matters. Who knows what happened. An imaginable scenario could be that the Typhoons were guided by AWACS or a GCI controller approaching passive from an unfavourable angle and attacking without being noticed. There could be many reasons so who knows.
The article about F 35 doing 55 deg. appeared in Aviation Week. Many people are very eager to quote anything negative it apears in AvWeek about F 35, usually signed by our friend Sweetman. But when someone say something positive about F 35, suddenly AvWeek is no more a reliable source…BTW, from the same article: F 35 can make a 9G turn at 370 kt. An F 16 blk. 52 can’t do it below 470 kt. It may give you a hint about how maneuvrable is the F 35.

The point is the F-22 is capable to sustain such high AoA due TVC, the F-35 is based on a similar aerodynamic concept, but lacks TVC. That’s why I’m curious about this claim. The soft limits I mentioned for a couple of fighters can be achieved without risk of departure during a manoeuvering fight. The 55° is unlikely to be achieved on all conditions. It’s apples with oranges.

We speak about cruise on optimal conditions pleby. This differs depending on the aircraft. You know that what you request is not public and your stupid spinning around doesn’t help you. You notice that you have no arguments so you start to kill the discussion by demanding things which aren’t publically available. The point I made is that twice the fuel doesn’t mean twice the range. The fuel fraction is of course not the only factor and the F-22 enjoys an edge in range on internal fuel, but that stands not in relation to the higher amount of its fuel.

You don’t get the point do you? The F/A-18 HARV used TVC to achieve such AoAs and remain controlable, the F-22 uses TVC to achieve a similar performance. The F-35 lacks TVC and the control surfaces being smaller means less control authority. In other words you have no idea what you are talking about. The soft limits on the deltas as you call them are similar or superior to that of the teens.

These are soft limits and those are quite similar. You can control either of these aircraft beyond that…
