    we cant add drag coefficients as no one knows them, but are we going to make bets on it

    You don’t get the point as usual. Max range of the Typhoon on internal range is 2600 km vs ~3000 km for the F-22. While the latter one carries almost twice the internal fuel.

    You entirely missed my point: the 55 deg. angle is sustained not transient. In english for you and Scorpion: the F 35, at low speed, can fly at 55 deg. until it run out of fuel.

    you’re not really going to say the typhoon matches the f111 and f22 on internal fuel range, are you ?

    No I’m not, but twice the fuel doesn’t mean twice the range. Typhoon actually exceeds the range of the F-22 with 3 x 1000 l tanks (~9125 l with internal fuel), the F-22s internal fuel load is about 11730 l. The range is not to far apart on internal fuel as well.

    Ok a simple short step by step.
    The critical AoA is the max AoA before the airflow over the wings becomes unstable or starts to depart. Up to the critical AoA airflow is relative stable and lift is increasing with the AoA. Beyond the critical AoA the airflow starts to “depart” (dunno wether this is actually an incorrect term, but as you brought it up you know what I mean). At that point lift decreases and the risk of departure from controlled flight increases as well. That doesn’t mean your aircraft must depart or that it can’t be controlled anymore. The AoA can rise depending on lift and control power of the aircraft’s control surfaces until it reaches its max AoA on grounds of aerodynamic performance (which can be different depending on the flight conditions), control might be lost before. The cobra manoeuver is actually not really controlled flight, but more a kind of achieving max aerodynamic AoA performance and being able to recover, that’s still some sort of control, but you wont be able to manoeuver anymore.

    If that’s still not understandable I don’t know how to explain it better. Maybe someone else could kick in or I just need a cap of sleep.

    That is indeed the post stall environment which starts as soon as the critical AoA has been passed. That doesn’t mean you automatically loose full control of your aircraft beyond that point, but the risk is increasing. That 55° claim is very likely to be the same post stall.
    As said the 22 uses TVC there is a significant difference. And what extrem 40°+ AoA manoeuvers at airshows for the Hornet you talk about?

    fcs or soft does have a few deg tolerance, but only a few and not miltiples of 10

    As mentioned by Sintra the higher fuel load tells you nothing. It’s the consumption in combination with the fuel fraction.

    gunna need a link to 100 for uro deltas, f-16′ are 25 ish and the canards give you a few more deg’s to 30 ish after that its nonsense and your stalling and washing speed is my pleb view, but a decent link will convince me differently

    The F-16s 25° is just the soft limit. The aircraft can reach higher AoAs.
    About the Gripen:
    “In the high AOA and spin tests that has taken place since 1996 and recently concluded successfully, the normal tactic was to initiate the tests with a near vertical climb with speed dropping off to near zero and a rapid increase of AOA up to extreme angles, and the aircraft could then be “parked” at 70 to 80 degrees of alpha…”

    Might have been mistaken on the 100° for that aircraft, though some Swedes claim it to be as high. This shows you of how such extrem AoAs are achieved and that it is not really of any use for combat under such circumstances.

    Anyway the purpose is to show you that not every AoA claimed somewhere is the same. The soft limit for the Gripen is still 28° (or at least was) and that of the Rafale is ~29°. In other words the max AoA isn’t necessarily of relevance and what has been found in those studies for the F-35 (55° yet to be confirmed in test flights) is not demonstrating a waste superiority as you fanboys suggest due your lack of understanding and inability to distinguish between the different AoAs (soft, critical, max…). So you appear to compare the soft limit of one aircraft to the max AoA performance achieveable by the aircraft’s aerodynamics.
    Maybe you understand this example:
    It would be as if I would claim the F-16 has a lower RCS than the F-22, because I take numbers of a clean F-16 from its lowest RCS spot and compare it to an F-22 with RCS enhancers, external fuel tanks and from its highest RCS spot. Or short apples and oranges.

    Growler can engage with two AMRAMMs. Good luck with that…Better have fast legs, in such case…

    Might be, the point don’t change the aircraft won’t accelerate to top speed achieveable on paper in such a situation or were they flying their mission profiles at high supersonic speeds?

    it looks like you call the soft limit as when the air flow starts to depart, which is aoe or aoa, after that it gets nasty unless your in an airshow

    yes the f-35 has abour 55 deg and f-22 has about 70 but i was keeping it simple

    We talk about the angle of attack yes. The soft limit isn’t where your airflow starts to depart, that would be the critical AoA. The soft limit is lower and is imposed by the FCS with some safety margin on top of that. The 55° AoA F-35 is the max AoA or similar to the 100°+ of a Rafale or Gripen, this isn’t sustained and just achieved in specific conditions and usually not applicable in combat. The Raptors high AoA is achieved with TVC, something the F-35 lacks. If the Lightning II sustains 55° in a alpha pass or rolls around its longitual axis at such AoA let us know. I doubt we’ll see it ever. And don’t mistake your kind with me thanks.

    EF111 can turn the tail and run and there are few planes (apart from EF and F22, that can stay with it)…and what will an EF18 with 5 pods do?? Engage?? LOL, it will be lucky if it can push through supersonic.

    But in contrast to the 111 which can escape only the EA-18G could defend itself with AMRAAMs and in the very worst case it could still eject the pods.

    i agree with your comparison with a sub other than maneuverability, the ones with a st andrews cross are very good
    the cross is also used on f18,22,35
    the f-35 nose point has a high aoa at 50+ deg compared to deltas at around 30, so it will be maneuverable

    Max AoA is said to be 55° that doesn’t mean the soft limit will be that high. A Su-27 achieves a max AoA of 100°+, yet its soft limit is 26°. And for that matter the Rafale and Gripen demonstrated a max AoA of ~100°+ so no it’s not more for the F-35. But as said it’s the soft limit which is relevant in the first place and wether AoA override is permitted by the FCS. And nose pointing isn’t just about the exact unit number, but more about being still controlable under such conditions. Reaching a max AoA in very specific test conditions doesn’t translate into a high alpha manoeuvering capability.

    But why would a F-22 need to carry Mk84 class weapons?

    There are no 2000 lb class weapons integrated on the F-22 at all, so the answer is zero, not 8. You probabley accounted 2 for each pylon as these pylons are rated for 5000 lb each. There are no such weapons integrated however and even those graphics showing bombs on the wing hardpoints just show ONE 1000 lb class bomb on each pylon.
