I believe that the Wolvercote crash, which I think was September 12th*, was the final monoplane accident before the ban. Presumably the Deperdussin accident was the one preceding?

I suspect that the apparently hasty removal of the memorial has a lot to do with the fact that various bodies have been trying to sort the presentation of Stonehenge (for those who haven’t been, it’s currently a sort of glorified traffic island next to a car park) for about twenty years. I suspect there may have been an element of “Thank God for agreement, let’s just go…” and the airman’s anniversary was overlooked.

I did start trying to put together some form of commemoration for the Wolvercote crash later that year, but realised very quickly that with the issues I’m currently having it was a sure-fire trip to the local Secure Unit. Sorry gents, you’ll just have to make do with a wreath…

On a more serious note, very sad about the accident at Duxford. Only heard a small amount of info, but hope for the best.

Lifted from the latest BBC report:

“A Formula 1 test driver who suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash during testing in Cambridgeshire has regained consciousness.”

    Fingers crossed…

Old Warden provides a little piece of magic, and today’s tragic events do not change that.

Blues skies, Mr Roche, and I’m sure that he’d be fully behind the Collection right now had it happened to anyone else.

You lucky, lucky, lucky etc! (looks for the jealous as hell smiley)

I’m guessing it wasn’t you taking photos after she’d parked up outside the hangar, then, as yours are, I think, all taken in front of the terminal. If you look behind in the third pic, I spotted her from the Earl’s house at Jarlshof – can you see me waving?:D

Lovely stuff on your Flickr, by the way – we had a list of things we really wanted to see as long as my arm that I’d have been happy as a sandboy if we’d seen a couple of… and I think otter are the only thing left we’ve missed thus far. Funny – P38s weren’t on it, but a cracking bonus!

    Where’s she coming from? Norway?

So I heard – no idea as to the source my informant got it from, though.

    TUNE!

As we’ll be in Orkney by this time Sunday, I’m planning on finding some Twatt.

The history of airdrop is a subject I could ‘bore for England’ about.

If you can bore on jeep drops to RAF Great Sampford, I’m all ears! My father remembers watching Halifaxes dropping jeeps and guns there, and I’ve actually spoken to a pilot who made drops there.

There is, of course, a jeep set up for air drop at Duxford, outside the Airborne Forces exhibition.

    Duxford Saturday May 19th:

For the record, Classic Wings Tiger Moth G-APAO/R4922 flew again today, so is apparently back on line after the damage last September:

Having had a flight in her about this time last year, I’m delighted to hear that!

OregonOz, if you want to win this one, you will need to post all the evidence and convince Tim. He has an advantage over you, unless there’s something you’re not telling us…

How times have changed – once upon a time they’d all have been dead chuffed to have a Spitfire on its belly in Germany.

Having seen Matthias’s stunning photos, I’m more concerned that they’ll not let it back in because it’s dirty than because of the damage. It’s no more than a bit bashed, and the pilot is OK, and those are the important things.

Just to please Kev35, I thought I’d let everyone know that G-PIGY has been in the air today, making several passes East-West and vice versa over North Oxford earlier this evening.

I dunno who said it, but it really does look like a flying Bedford van…

Only a few weeks ago I dug up a video of the matching TV Triumph ad off of YouTube – I’m sure it’ll be easy to find, just search the forum for Spitfire.:diablo:

Love the reggie on the flying club ‘plane – very relaxing. G-AAAH would have been more apt for a parachuting club aircraft, I’d have thought…
