And if I stay far enough away from yous guys, you won’t be able to tell which engine is mounted.
    Ed

    😀

Never mind the engine, just post a picture wearing the wrong roundels and watch the fur fly… They’re not called the roundel police for nothing.

Seriously, it sounds like a great project. Keep us posted, when you aren’t busy with the spanners, please!

I shall be ringing at my local church, then staying for my one non-hatch-match-dispatch service of the year.

Kev, if you haven’t already sent it that way (I only did a cursory search, and your ID over there escapes me), the Great War Forum would love to see your topic.

And John, I’m glad I’m not the only serial poppy-loser. Held on to this years thus far, meaning the last I lost was at Ors British Cemetery last November… Hopefully someone found it, and knew that we remembered.

So more RAF Robots are coming out of the woodwork… but what were they being used for, I wonder?

Nice Luftwaffe one, Andy, in used-but-still-hanging-on condition. Is that part of your collection?

Perhaps we should re-title this thread “Straight from the horse’s mouth”? With B17Sam and Cotteswold about, we only need Jules Horowitz for a full set!

Sam, if you haven’t already, I think Jules Horowitz might be the sort of person you’d talk to…

That was bad enough but, when a Havoc’s tyre burst on take-off, we lost one great chap.

    = Tim

Presumably the picture shows the aftermath? “Only” one great chap dying may have been a minor miracle in itself…

Excuse the ignorance (they do say you should do what you are good at…), but can I assume that the sections looking like the deep fat fryers at the chip shop are the bomb bays? I realise that the He111 had vertical storage of bombs, but I’m fairly sure that’s the first time I’ve seen the bays themselves in the flesh. I’d always assumed that there was more space, and some kind of arrangement for hanging them from the roof of the bomb bay…

Oooh, while we are on hairyplanes out of Wethersfield, any offers on a mid-air in the circuit, with one aeroplane crashing at Cornish Hall End? IIRC (unlikely…), at least one was a T33.

Call the Police, they will contact EOD who will deal with it properly.

I’d add the word “eventually” into that sentence!

Way back in ’93 when I found an SC50 on the Kent coast, the EOD phone operator asked a series of circular questions, then rang off with a promise to ring back. The Coastguard and I sat and watched the tide cover it (in EODs defence they’d have had to break a lot of traffic laws to get there before the tde covered it – and besides, they were the silly beggars who’d left it there!) before the Coastguard looked at his watch and said “You know what?… Three o’clock kick-off on a Sunday!”

Wow! Anyone know anything about the Dornier flyong boat being salvaged? Or the RAF biplane with 4A on its (very rounded) empennage?

It’s in for a total re-paint – strip to bare metal and out in the same scheme. I believe the owner wasn’t happy with the patchwork appearance, particularly on the undersides of the wings.

    Tom.

Which just goes to show how much I know… 😮

TomW only finished repainting it last year, so I doubt very much it’s in for paint – unless they are touching it up?

…and Dave is prowling the garages of Essex right now armed with a club with a nail in it, looking for this!

Seriously, give him £45,000 and he could build the rest of the Sea Hornet – what’s the going rate for a Merlin these days? Not that much, surely, or at least not without oodles of paperwork?

Fifty minutes to a definitive answer, via being helped to post the correct picture. The knowledge of people here never ceases to astound me. Thank you all very much!
