How much did the Vimy Commercial have in common with the later Victoria and Valentia, I wonder? It is an alarming thought to consider that the RAF had the latter on strength as late as 1944, even if well away fron frontline roles.

Google is your friend!
Ex Cosford, according to this – no doubt someone will fill the rest in!

David,
It looks like you’ve got an ID, but this might be worth a try to make the picture a bit clearer.
It looks to me like a sepia print that you’ve scanned in colour. If that is so, and if your picture software will let you, try converting the colour scan to greyscale, and fiddling with the brightness and contrast. I’ll make no promises as to whether the detail will become any clearer, but it works very well on pictures that have yellowed. It is important in my experience to scan in colour first, rather than scan in greyscale.
Hope that helps!

will Legends still be flying when it’s ready?

Long term restoration to airworthy Steve

Bloody hell! Now that would be worth seeing – any ideas when the last time a Battle saw air under its wheels was?

There was a senior Luftwaffe pilot who led the Bf110s that turned back on the morning of August 13th 1940 who, IIRC, had lost a leg in WW1. Name currently escapes me, I’m afraid.

Ambrosden depot near Bicester has a Tornado – at least I think it is Ambrosden, there are rather a lot of assorted depots on odd roads round Bicester!

Probably a lack of better ideas! Frank Muir (of Call My Bluff, amongst others, fame) spent a chunk of his RAF photographic career snapping parachute drops by hanging out of a Whitley, and being hauled back in by his scarf! 😮

As for JDK’s pics from Pathe… flamin’ ‘eck!

With the way the metal is delaminating, I hope to goodness that there is no pressure left in those Oxygen bottles…

No, it was meant as a torpedo carrier – I’ve just tried Supermarine 322 Dumbo on Google – Picture 3 view etc seems to be readily available.
Blimey! Given that the Blackburn Blackburd in Stormbird’s post was also a torpedo carrier, and then the ‘cuda, what was it with the Navy and uglybugs?

Like the Folland F… F… Oh, what was the number? Nicknamed the Frightful, and built as an engine testbed. Would not be out of place in this thread either!
Anyway, what I meant to say was that presumably it was built to investigate the technology, rather than as a “serious” aircraft?

Supermarine S24/37
Hmm, I can see where the nickname came from!
By the way, everything about it on Google is either from here, or linked to on the forum. Can anyone addd anything else about this monstrosity?

What on earth is the weird thing with a Prototype P in Phil’s post – the one with the sceond row all to itself? I can get a few of the others (one even has its name on it), or guess that they are French, but that thing has me beat. It looks like a Barracuda was crossed with a pregnant whale!
(mind you, that piccy of a Barra with the wings folded makes me wince every time…)

Pullman was my girlfriend’s English teacher – mind you, he taught it to half of Oxford as it was a big school!
