I saw a Shorts 360 flying out of Exeter a couple of weeks ago.
First time in years I’d seen one in the air 🙂
There is a Skyvan, the 360’s daddy, parked at Kidlington. Saw it in the air last year and had to ask for conformation here as I didn’t realise there were any still flying.
Given it’s rotundity I was tickled pink by the reggie – G-PIGY!
Obviously gets around a bit as a little Google produces this:

Anyway, back to arguing over big Bristols…
Adrian
And I saw it over the Marston side of Oxford yesterday – very nice!
I was watching cricket in the Parks, the Rapide was trundling over and the scent of the mahonia blossom was so heavy I could FEEL it – hard to think of a better few minutes taken off work!

The plot thickens…
If the archaeologists were doing a site investigation, then I suspect that they were not digging that deep (though I know nothing of the local geography/geology). Bet they moved a bit sharpish when they realised what they were scraping with the trowel! 😮
If there were two bombs close together and close to the surface, I wonder whether they were simply “mislaid” and got covered in rubbish at some point afterwards, perhaps buried by later landscaping? Of course as Colin says they may have been hang-ups that finally fell off, so the two may be together by chance. Just wish they’d say a bit more about them!
Adrian
If Mr Pilot is reading this, perhaps you would be kind enough to do a couple of circuits of the allotments at the north end of Port Meadow? Mine is about halfway down, inside row at the west end… It’ll make a nice break from the digging! 😀
*EDIT* And it’ll make a nice change from you distracting me with your Tiger Moths!
Adrian
Very nice, I notice an Elm tree (God rest ’em) on the skyline behind what I presume must be Abbots – captured a balmy Essex day well. Now, when you get onto Great Sampford then I’ll be really interested!
Seriously, I’m not just a local snob – I am looking forward to seeing you post the final version, because it looks great already!
Adrian
I’m surprised that no-one else has mentioned that locally the Galleria is known as the “Gonorrhoea”.
I’ll get me coat…

Lashenden (aka Headcorn), about 1986, Robin Dr400 2+2 G-BGRH. Pilot was a chap named John Weston-Smith IIRC.
Only time I’ve flown in a “real” aeroplane, as opposed to a toothpaste tube. Mind you, two years ago for their birthdays I bought my parents a Rapide flight from Duxford – I’m not sure either of them will ever fly anywhere, so I thought I’d do something they would REALLY remember!
ADrian
But then it wouldn’t be a play on words ,would it ?
And I’ve just realised I missed your pun entirely, Stuart…
😮 😮 😮
I’ll get me coat…
Adrian
I may be missing the point here but shouldn’t that be ‘a grave undertaking’ seeing that the mystery passenger was a Sexton?
How on earth did I miss that one? 😮 😮 😀
Adrian
We’ll forgive you, Daz… I’m sure we can add a few more!
Patrick MacNee – of “Avengers” fame. Royal Navy Officer. In hospital with something nasty the night his ship was bombed and has felt guilty that he wasn’t there coping with his shipmates ever since. Unfortunately without my own copy of the book I couldn’t tell you what vessel, but I think it might have been an MTB.

(of course, digressing wildly from aircrew!)
Only if we’re trying make this a widdling contest, and (I hope), we’re not.
Well I’m not – saving that for this evening apres pub!
Just trying to make the point that we in Britain are not innocent of maltreating airframes either – we should look over our shoulder before we start bashing others for crimes that we have all at some point been guilty of.
Restoration is a funny old business and I don’t pretend to understand it. I do, however, feel that if we must criticise the efforts of others it ought to be done constructively rather than just to say “worra pile of…”
Adrian
Spot on, Steve! How many dataplate restorations are there out there? I’ve no doubt some of them are beautiful things but are they really an original Spitfire/Hurricane/whatever?
And whether you like the banana Spitfire or not is our record in Britain whiter-than-white? You only need to look at the Southend Lincoln, the Beverley at Hendon, Bedsheet Bomber… You could put up a decent argument that the first two of those are/were considerably more important than another Spitfire! Much as I love them, there are plenty to go round. The Lincoln is one of just two and has spent years rotting outdoors in a heap, while as for the Bev…
Adrian
A Butt cheek whilst refueling 😀 They are very thin tin and it dont take much, even a heavy hand leave an impression but the favorite is sitting on it when filling the tank!! 😉
Oooooooh, a chance for immortality while the old cheeks are still pert! Anyone got a Moff I can help refuel?! 😮 :diablo:
Adrian
Didn’t know you were into that sort of thing. :diablo:
Is that covered in the other Haynes manual that crops up on the thread…? :diablo: :diablo:
Adrian
Very nice, though I’m a bit concerned as to how he got that ding in the tank!
