Hurricane and Mustang wingtip to wingtip over Didcot at about 1.20 today – I caught a very brief and distant glance between buildings of one of them with wheels down, I can only assume they landed at Abingdon.
Interesting episode in that we discover that Steed flew night missions during WW2 (I forget now whether it is explicitly stated that he flew in bombers or not) – in fact Patrick Macnee had served on Motor Torpedo Boats, and suffered classic survivor’s guilt after his boat was destroyed in action while he was in hospital with bronchitis.
Saw something in the far distance on Saturday that might have been a Vampire heading in a Brize-ly direction then, on Sunday, a pair of Strikemasters and the Reds over Britwell Salome.
Assuming the hsitory in the WIX thread is accurate, it sounds as though Mr Lamplough has more than one Bf109 on the go as I’m sure the one from Tablada was an earlier model

I caught her as she came over Kidlington have flownn over (presumably, as it was the anniversary of VE Day) Churchill’s grave and birthplace – she was low and motoring, a great sight. What must they have looked and sounded like on full chat as Dad saw them on the way to Abberton reservoir at zero feet….
I’m pretty sure that East Kirkby has some fragmentary remains of a Felixstowe-type (ie big and wooden, sorry, there’s so much there that I can’t remember details!) flying boat?
I’d say today’s was a pretty decent spot, certainly more interesting than the usual fare round here. I thought something bloody loud was coming out of Kidlington and was trying to spot it when PA474 roared into view, low and fairly rapid. I’m guessing a VE-Day flypast over Bladon and Blennheim Palace, but it made my day!
Something noisy doing aeros in the distance near Steventon (Oxon) this afternoon, almost certainly the blue-nosed P51 Mustang that came over me just North of Didcot 10 minutes or so later.
I think I heard a warbird leaving Kidlington yesterday (15th), but from home if they fly off the Northern end of the runway… well, I’d struggle to tell Concorde from a Fokker Triplane, they’re so small! Maybe a Spitfre back – but if so I didn’t hear or see it again.
