That’s the chap, BM! I was taught History by his son Bob, and I know a few old pupils who wouldn’t mind hearing what he was doing nowadays. As you aren’t family, though, probably the wrong chap to ask
Adrian
(gets coat…)
“Richthofen mistreated his dog Moritz because he had a complex about being short”
Obvious garbage – there is no way that that dog can be called short!
Adrian
(Blue Max, you ain’t plugging Delta Papa as your rellie are you?)
Don’t think I can quite match the standard of photography here but where else in the world could you see this…..
MAGIC!
I was thrilled by the Edwardians – I was expecting a few Bleriotesque straight-up-and-straight-down flights, not the happy trundle round the Bedfordshire sunset we got. Next year I must take my Dad – to see them go up tiddly up up and down diddly um down!

[QUOTE=Atcham Tower]The Berlin aircraft was a Cessna 310. I used to work with an ex-wartime ferry pilot who told me that Hughie Green was not very popular with his colleagues! Photos exist of Coronados at Beaumaris.[/QUOTE/]
Some time ago – not many years after I stumbled across Beaumaris – there was a picture of a Coronado in Flypast or A********, and someone commented on the fact that one pair of engines had three-bladed props and one had four (ie inboard pair and outboard pair, not port pair & starboard pair!). This was followed by a letter from HG himself stating that one set were reversible to allow for better control on the water.

Was the ball gunner picking daisys ,thats one of the best lows yet….
I guess that explains where the Paul Mantz belly landing from “Twelve O’Clock High” was fitted in then… :diablo:
While 1000plane gets a little kudos from me for being the only movie I can think of to mention Ridgewell (Essex’s only 8thAF B-17 base), I can’t think of any other film with so much footage from other movies spliced in to it – especially, of course, Memphis Belle…
Adrian
Supposedly he also flew the RAF Museum’s Stranraer in it’s days in Canada.
Adrian
On an entirely irrelevant note, my girlfriend’s mother calls her car “The Messerschmitt” because it’s registration begins M109…
Adrian
I’ve been stuggling with new PC, hence my lateness…
This is amazing – I opened the pack of photos and went “How the hell did I take that?”
Then I twigged… My SLR is getting on, and every now and then the shutter goes when I wind on. THis was one of those – anyone for a pint of serendipity? 😀
Adrian
Funnily enough on the A34 yesterday near Newbury I was passed by a lorry marked “Proptech” with three props aboard – one wearing obvious Dowty badges and one six bladed job – didn’t know you ngot those on anything with a single prop…
ADRian
You ain’t been forgotten, TT – just need a bit of time to fiddle with the pics…
ADrian
You look familiar – there were four of us, two ladyfriends, a chap with a Nikon with a tripod and long lens, and a blonde moptop who wouldn’t shut up (me!)… We made it to the gate after the main display was over, to see the Edwardians going up tiddly up up and down diddly um down.
No that’s not the stereo Edixa – but the chap with it saw it, and had a good chat with it’s owner-builder. I missed it myself, or I’d have done the same! The Edixa was porpoise built, and looks like this:

Some bit of kit…
Adrian
No not me, I had two large Canons and a flourescent vest.
You mean like Jordan on a bicycle? 😀
Ah, we probably spotted you on t’other side of the fence then. As OW virgins we found the flightline tour fabulous – and could happily have snapped away with the Brownie from the fence all day, I can’t get over how close the flightline is!
ADrian
So that wasn’t you then..!!! 😀
Neil
No, there’s only one of me and I can’t afford a Leica!
Nick, that wasn’t you clutching the Edixa was it? If so, you stopped and had a chat!
Adrian
Well Gents, what can I say except
WHY THE BLEEDIN’ HECK HAS IT TAKEN ME THIS LONG?
I last went to an airshow at the Duxford Spitfire one with the hideous problems getting off the field. Three hours stationary in a car on a hot day – sod that again! But yesterday…
Straight in… the right crowd and no crowding… It was just great – and the flightline tour for £4 – gods, if I hadn’t seen anything else that would have been worth it alone! Some of my film is washing as I write this – as soon as I get them developed, I’ll get some of my Box Brownie prints up on the piccy forum. No crowding, no pushing, no shoving, lots of space for everyone… You name it, it had it! And I haven’t even mentioned the line up yet.
I didn’t get as far as a chat with the long lens brigade – sorry chaps! – though I might have seen Manonthefence stood onacamper again, and Septic can’t have been far from us when he took the pic’s posted of the Bleriot (we were leant on the gate – oo ar!). Good place for spotting odd cameras too – a Stereo Edixa my top spot, and the three transvestites with old cameras (allegedly a Leica – didn’t spot that, but did see a Pentacon) raised a smile.
I don’t think it’s worth me saying anything about the line up ‘cos anyone who knows anything knows all the wonders Old Warden has. Suffice to say it was great – my cheeks hurt, I’d grinned so much! A fabulous day out!
Thanks for the tips everyone, and yes, that was the route we’d planned Kev – the extra landmarks came in VERY handy! It’s just a trifle rustic out there…
Adrian
😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
Thanks Kev!
I’m pretty sure that’s the route I found on the map, so the extra landmarks will be a great help.
