Do I remember right that our very own Cotteswold flew at least one Vengeance? I don’t think he was a fan, mind.
Adrian
Not at all, it made me smile!
Adrian
You did indeed Adrian.
I’ve taken a hell of a lot from this forum in the 18 years (****!) I’ve been on board, and envied hugely those more closely connected than me. It’s nice to have been able to have a little tease about something that I know about for once. Maybe not very adult, but a nice feeling. Hugely looking forward to seeing the programme and, I hope, another blue Spitfire in the air. I may have to raise a Vera to that!

About 2pm this afternoon a silver Harvard with yellow underwings did three passes over St Edwards School, Oxford. Given that St Ed’s old boys included Bader, Warburton and Gibson, and one of the masters was on the RAF selection board which supposedly led to a startling number of the officer pilots of the BoB being St Edwards old boys, I presume it was part of theuir remebrance commemoration.

Said there was lots, didn’t I? Apparently there was an extra couple of one-ton bags as well, but they weren’t very photogenc, so were left out to keep it looking good.
Adrian
A Stuka.
A Stuka?
Seriously? A STUKA?
Roger me with a prize leek and call me Nigel – that is incredible!
Could the Swedes be persauded to send their B17 over to join it? That would be an airshow pairing!
Adrian
Just imagine the fuss in these parts if someone released a film about the Battle of Britain where the bombers and fighters had the wrong engines and the Spitfires were all the wrong marks, and had the wrong squadron codes. There’d be people queuing up to takie potshots at it.
Adrian
I’ll comment, as a limey. (it’s cheap, but it’s all I’m paying for!).
They’re keeping quiet until it’s on TV – or so I was told by the chap on their stall at Brize. The usual TV money thing I guess. Should be fairly soon. There’s lots of it, even if some of the bits are quite small. Certainly more than there was of the most recent Hurricane resto to fly, V7497, to start with.
Adrian
I don’t know how helpful this is, but Oxford Blue is Pantone 282.
Adrian
Well, the Andover has the dihedral tailplane and the exhausts could be mistaken for the Sperrin’s stacked engines. I could believe that (do the dates fit, anyone?), but I’m not going to believe it’s an Ashton until I see a photo of one with an engine fit that explains that rear view and the dihedral. As a testbed it’s possible, but not until…
Adrian
Well, if it’s not a Sperrin, what the hell else could it be?
Adrian
It’s just taken me about two minutes to upload a reply (no piccies, just text), and the last poster is still out of kilter with the thread when you visit.
You can go right off some people… 😛
Adrian
(Rob – where di you find that stunning photo?)
You might not find she had a dispersal as such – at Bassingbourn the aircraft were often dispersed up the avenue of elms leading to Wimpole Hall.
It’s the linear feature running due North up the middle of the image.
Adrian
Thanks, Mark 12 (I can spell… it’s just I can’t type!)
