Might also be because they weren’t American, Debden was home to 52 OTU at the time.

ARM?
Adrian
Pity, because Cruise would surely be a shoe-in to play Vernon Charles “Shorty” Keogh.

No, this one:

Sgt Ian Macdonald Cheyne and Sgt William Fleming, both of the RNZAF.

Cheyne and Fleming, I think, trumper. Killed in a collision in 1941. Should you get the chance to update my paltry effort I would be eternally grateful.
Can’t currently recall first names.

…and he also references the websites he found them on, which is better than 99% of the web.

Bravo Ed, I’m sure the gesture is appreciated.
I left a cross at the new Debden memorial over the remembrance weekend, specifically for two young men who travelled half the world to fight for Britain, only to die in a collision without ever facing the foe, as my father watched. And I didn’t even have a pencil on me to write their names on the cross. Not impressed with myself.

Nice DHC Beaver!

Surely, though, it should be sold in a string bag?

Brave men, who must have thought it was a suicide mission. I’m sure I recall reading an account of the Swordfish returning singly, each thinking they were the sole survivors.
If you want to annoy hell out of an American, remind them who it gave big ideas about attacking fleets in harbour to.

If you head for Cambridge after DX, the beer and burgers in the Castle (near County Hall) are thoroughly recommended and you get the chance of meeting a legend in his own lunchtime – the landlord was the drummer for the Rutles!
Compass were sh*te when they did my school’s catering in the late ’80s, I hope they’ve improved!

I cannot, Kev, but I can respond and keep this near the top to make it easier to spot.
I admire your dedication over the years very much.

Great, shame it’s so short, does the hucks starter disengage once the engine fires?
Yes – there’s a pair of angled dogs on the propellor hub and a pin on the end of the starter that engages them. As soon as the engine is turning faster than the Hucks, the angle pushes the pin out, and the starter disengages.
If that isn’t clear (which is entirely possible!), have a look at this:
https://www.ahspares.co.uk/austin-healey/big-healey/Engine-6-Cylinder-ENG595-to-ENG680/NUT-crankshaft-starter-dog.aspx
There’s a pair of dogs much like the nut illustrated on the engine. When it’s stopped, the pin on the Hucks sits against the flats but as soon as the engine fires, the angled part turns under the pin and pushes it out.

That Midge is a Gnat.
😮 IT even says so on the piece of kit under it. I have to say that I thought the Gnat was the trainer derivative, so consider me educated!
What are the dozen deltas? They don’t look right for Javelins, and there’s too many for the Avro 707s (I may have that number wrong, but I’m sure you know what I mean!).

I think Saunders-Roe’s mixed-power interceptor (SR53?) might have its bum in the photo behind the Folland Midge.
